Position Summary:
Reporting to the Associate Director, Student Engagement, the Communications Officer will provide communications, and promotion of
myPath . Responsibilities include but not limited to managing events, designing, writing and publishing communications material and content, developing websites and managing social media, and evaluating impact through data analysis and reporting.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Initiates planning, development and implementation of initiatives related to the myPath program to support the goals and objectives of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (GPS).
  • Plan and design large meetings, special events, seminar series, workshops, and activities including overseeing logistics, invitations, catering and all necessary equipment, material and audio-visual equipment. Ensure speakers or special guests are contacted and prepared for sequence of activities and timeline. Organize and monitor event budgets.
  • Design and maintain websites, web-based forms, e-communications, newsletters, social media campaigns to attract students and staff to the offerings; Track engagement (web analytics/metrics, registration process); Ensure coherence and consistency across materials and platforms.
  • Write content such as promotional announcements, brochures, posters, slides, booklets, event descriptions, etc.; Prepare communications for departmental seminars, myPath programming and activities.
  • Develop, plan and implement the communications and branding strategy; Analyse and establish best practices in marketing and advertising to the McGill community.
  • Liaise with graduate program faculty and staff; Lead outreach and communications with on-campus partners (e.g. PGSS, TLS, Student Services) to develop partnerships and cross-promotion.
  • Collect and systematize data gathering (e.g. for tracking and program assessment); Design and implement data gathering instruments (e.g. interviews, focus groups, online surveys); Analyse and summarize findings in reports.
  • Record detailed minutes at meetings, make decisions and ensure follow-up and implementation of agreed decisions. Manage the myPath resource account (
    mypath.gps@mcgill.ca ), respond to emails, ensure follow up, and maintain calendar.
  • Provide professional expertise; Represent unit at internal and/or external meetings for the myPath program.


Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
  • Demonstrated experience managing events, projects and programs. Strong organization and ability to prioritize.
  • Expertise in creating promotional material and adapting communications for different audiences.
  • Proven ability to collaborate, develop and nurture relationships with diverse stakeholders (e.g. students, postdocs, faculty, and staff) and lead student staff. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated planning, administrative, and organizational skills; ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Excellent attention to detail, especially within datasets and for written communication.
  • Strong research and analysis skills; experience collecting and managing data from multiple sources, compiling, and presenting results.
  • Ability to take responsibility and deliver results with a minimum of instruction and oversight.
  • Demonstrated experience and ease with technological applications; ability to use Zoom, MS Teams, PowerPoint, Excel, and social media platforms.
  • Graduate degree preferred.
  • Must be student-focused and service-oriented with understanding of the distinct needs of graduate students and postdocs, including discipline specific issues.

Knowledge of French and English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level # 4 on a scale of 0-4
