Dalhousie University's Ocean Frontier Institute (OFI) is one of the world's most significant ocean science research and training collaborations with partnerships extending globally, across many sectors such as university, government, research institutes, industry, NGO, and philanthropic. Job Summary
Reporting to OFI's Director, Communications and Public Relations, and working with the OFI team, it is the role of the Communications Officer to help shape OFI's communications strategies and develop and implement communications tactics to facilitate these strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities
Help create and deliver communications plans that share OFI's story and raise its profile.
Manage and update OFI's social media channels, tracking progress against goals.
Write clear, engaging content tailored to specific audiences, including key messages, website articles, informational brochures, and presentation materials.
Provide support for media outreach by drafting media releases, pitching story ideas, and coordinating interview preparation.
Assist with planning and promoting events, conferences, and workshops.
Build positive relationships with researchers, partners, and other stakeholders.
Note
The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work from within Nova Scotia) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.
Required Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, or related field with approximately three to five years' of related experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly relay information in a compelling way and to translate complicated concepts into clear messages.
Experience in developing and implementing communications strategy.
Must be self-motivated, proactive, and capable of working independently to meet deadlines.
Strong problem-solving and diplomacy skills.
Exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to build professional relationships with media, stakeholders, partners, researchers, and other audiences.
Assets
Fluency in French, both verbal and written.
