What will you be doing!

  • Lead execution of CNL's community relations program:
  • Triaging and providing recommendation on CNL's investment in local communities.
  • Building relationships with key community contacts, ensuring trust is established and communication channels are in place.
  • Identifying opportunities to build CNL's brand with in local and extended communities through delivery of the community relations program.
  • Developing communications material for internal and external audiences:
  • Working with subject matter experts to research material for communications products, and to ensure accuracy of final content.
  • Writing and editing corporate communications products such as articles, website content, fact sheets and presentations, translating technical/scientific concepts into plain language.
  • Supporting CNL's social media strategy with regular content development.
  • Supporting CNL profile building efforts at key conferences:
  • Supporting the execution of key conference sponsorships.
  • Working with relevant mission lines to plan relevant exhibit / communications products for conferences.
  • Attending select conferences as a representative at CNL's exhibit.
  • Serving as CNL Emergency Information Officer:
  • Supporting the Emergency Operations Centre during periods of activation, and training exercises.
  • Maintaining familiarity with CNL's mass communications solutions and technologies.
  • Developing communications strategies and material to support emergency communications.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What we are looking for:
  • Education
  • A university degree/college diploma in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or a related field.
  • Experience
  • Five years of progressive experience in a business communications environment.
  • Experience developing and designing communications products, including fact sheets, media releases, newsletter articles, key messages, and online content for public audiences and for media.
  • Experience working with technical/scientific subject matter experts to gather information to be used in developing communications products.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical/scientific information to lay audiences in clear, understandable language.
  • Ability to discuss sensitive subjects with stakeholders resulting in productive outcomes.
  • Ability to identify issues that require management attention in a timely manner.
  • Ability to develop communications strategies/plans to support the requirements of a public information program.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Create Suite and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Valid G Ontario drivers license.
  • Knowledge of public communications best practices and in a highly regulated industry such as nuclear.
  • Knowledge of working with a cross-functional project team.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
  • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's "Standard on Security Screening" and the "Policy on Government Security."
Working Conditions:
  • Working schedule: Five (5) days per week, seven and a half (7.5) hours per day for a thirty-seven and a half (37.5) hour work week.
  • Must wear PPE when on some CNL sites.
  • Long period of standing and walking while on tours.

Location: Hybrid
Located in the heart of the Ottawa Valley, our Chalk River site offers a beautiful natural setting with forests, lakes, and wildlife right at your doorstep. Surrounding communities such as Deep River, Petawawa, and Pembroke provide access to excellent recreation and a great quality of life.
Please note: This is a hybrid position, with a combination of remote work and onsite presence at our Chalk River Laboratory, Ontario.
