Job Description


The COMMUNICATIONS ASSOCIATE is responsible for contributing to effective communication with Association members, staff, elected representatives and the public as well as maintaining the Association\xe2\x80\x99s communications tools and platforms. The COMMUNICATIONS ASSOCIATE utilizes a variety of skills, programs and platforms in order to develop, assist in the preparation of, and maintain, Association communication materials.

Key responsibilities:

  • Monitors enquiries to communications email and phone and liaises with the appropriate staff member as needed to respond with informed and consistent messaging;
  • Coordinates the Association\xe2\x80\x99s social media presence by developing social content, monitoring social media accounts and liaising with the appropriate staff member as needed to respond with informed and consistent messaging;
  • Manages the Association\xe2\x80\x99s outreach tools and services (e.g., e-Drive) by monitoring and reviewing submissions, liaising with the appropriate staff, and formatting material for distribution;
  • Manages the Association\xe2\x80\x99s website and intranet including updates and upkeep as well as developing new content;
  • Collaborates in creating, updating, editing, laying out, formatting, and distributing communications material (e.g., Equiflash, direct-to-member emails, EQ Magazine, etc.) for members, Council, staff and engagers;
  • Maintains, updates and archives Equity documents and publications (e.g., agreements, contracts, bylaws, policies, forms, etc.), including digital versions, and distributes the material as needed;
  • Provides general graphic design and layout services for Equity documents and publications;
  • Collaborates with managers and other staff on the development and delivery of various projects (e.g., membership meetings, special events, Council elections, ratification and referenda, etc.), and provides ongoing technical support for said projects;
  • Utilizes the Association\xe2\x80\x99s database and systems tools to generate reports, lists and other information/data required for various projects ;
  • Liaises with third-party providers (e.g., printers, caterers, photographers, event rental, etc.) as required;
  • Performs other duties and contributes to projects generally considered to be within the job category.
Requirements:
  • Post secondary education;
  • Strong computer skills, with competency in using intermediate/ advanced features of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), the internet and working with a database;
  • Intermediate graphic design skills;
  • Experience coordinating content for social media platforms;
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy;
  • Strong member service attitude in a dynamic environment;
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to multi-task and meet tight deadlines;
  • Ability to handle confidential matters;
  • Collegial interpersonal skills and a team player willing to help out when required;
  • Flexibility, ability to adapt to change and shifting priorities;
  • Ability to work independently and effectively with minimal supervision;
The ideal candidate will have:
  • Experience creating and managing web page content using HTML/ CSS and CMS.
  • Strong graphic design skills and experience using Adobe products, including Acrobat Pro for creativity and design (e.g. Illustrator, InDesign, and Premiere Pro) as well as Canva;
  • Experience managing social media platforms (e.g. X (Twitter), Facebook and Instagram) using management platform (e.g. Hootsuite); and
  • Experience with a mass email service (e.g. Brevo) and work management service (e.g. Asana)
The successful candidate will have a minimum of three years experience in related fields. Preference will be given to those with a background in theatre, ballet and/or opera, the arts and/or labour.

Additional Info: The position is a member of Equity\xe2\x80\x99s Toronto office staff union (COPE).

The starting salary for this position is $65,165 per annum with an excellent benefits package.
