Cumming School of Medicine

invites applications for a

Communications Assistant

. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.


Reports to the Administrative Director.


Hybrid: 3 days in-person, Cal Wenzel Precision Health Building - University of Calgary, Foothills Campus, 2 days remote.


Work in environment where there is some ambiguity, continuous change and shifting priorities. Stress resulting from work is moderate and results from the management of multiple assigned tasks. Occasional overtime, and work outside regular hours, may be required.

Summary of Key Responsibilities

(job functions include but are not limited to):

Assist in data capture and entry for the Institute Contact Relationship management (CRM) platform Assist in tracking the Institute's measures of success, such as compiling statistics related to grants, awards and publications Support and assist in the production of articles, event materials, brochures, fact sheets, reports, etc Maintain and update the O' Brien Institute website Maintain and update the various O' Brien Institute social media channels Assist in editing and in compiling the O'Brien Institute electronic newsletter Assist in the implementation of Institute meetings, seminars, and events Assist with the production of posters, pamphlets, electronic bulletin boards, ads, and other promotional products

Qualifications / Requirements:



Post-secondary diploma/degree in the liberal arts. Preference will be given to those with a background in a relevant area, such as communications or journalism One year of communication support or administrative experience required. A combination of education and experience will be considered Developed organizational skills, augmented by sharp attention to detail Demonstrated oral and written communication skills Proficient with web publishing tools, such as Drupal or WordPress Proficiency with Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube Proficiency in the Adobe suite, including InDesign and Photoshop, is considered an asset Experience producing a variety of communications products aimed at various audiences Familiarity with shooting and editing photos and video is considered an asset Proficient in Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with constantly shifting priorities
