The Role: Communications and Engagement Lead (Full-Time)



As the Communications & Engagement Lead, you are the connector and project quarterback of the Communications & Engagement team. Every new request, media inquiry or opportunity starts with you. You clarify the need, create a plan and make sure the right person is on it. You thrive on organization and accountability, keeping Monday.com (our project management tool) up-to-date and ensuring nothing falls through the cracks.



You're a mentor who supports strong writing and storytelling across the team and you're the final editor who makes sure internal communications, program handbooks and major publications are sharp and consistent. You build relationships with media, lead internal communications and play a key role in strategic initiatives like foster care recruitment and brand awareness. This role is perfect for someone who loves relationship building, structure, clarity and project management.

Key Duties & Responsibilities





As the Communications & Engagement Lead, you'll be the connector and driver behind Trellis' communications and engagement strategy. You'll bring structure to competing priorities, manage complex projects and ensure our team's work is clear, consistent, and impactful. This includes:Leading the execution of a comprehensive annual communications strategy. Serving as the first point of contact for new requests, media inquiries and opportunities while triaging, scoping, assigning, tracking progress and reporting back to the Director of Engagement and the stakeholder(s). Coaching, mentoring and providing feedback and learning opportunities to Communications Coordinators on the team. Building and maintaining strong relationships with media and engaging on key issues that impact the people Trellis serves. Overseeing writing and editing across formats including media releases, blogs, donor reports, program handbooks and major publications (Branching Out and Report to Community). Leading strategic initiatives while ensuring alignment with organizational priorities. Collaborating with members of the Communications & Engagement team to ensure consistent messaging across internal and external stakeholders. Prioritizing competing demands and allocating resources appropriately to deliver on multiple organizational needs. Empowering Trellis ambassadors to represent the agency at external and community functions.

+ Collaborate with the Impact & Evaluation team and program teams to leverage data for advocacy purposes.
+ Build collaborative working relationships on the team and across the organization.
Inclusive Communication + Able to connect Trellis' work to external trends and stakeholders to gain buy in.
+ Share and present information, orally and in writing, in a clear, concise and trauma-informed way.

Knowledge & Skills Expectations



Bachelor's degree in public relations, communications, or equivalent education and experience. A preference of 3 or more years' experience working in the human services sector Previous mentorship or coaching experience (formal or informal) considered an asset. Demonstrated project management skills, with experience using tools like Monday.com (or similar) to manage multiple projects, competing priorities and deadlines. Experience working with media representatives. Exemplary writing and editing skills across a variety of formats. Strong leadership, interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills, with a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and cultural safety. Strong problem solving, organizing, planning and analytical skills. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across teams and stakeholders. Able to work flexible hours according to the needs of the organization.

Other Requirements



Criminal Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Welfare Intervention Check Trauma-Informed Practice, Diversity, Indigenous Awareness and other mandatory Trellis trainings will be required post hire as an Internal Services' Staff.

This position reports to the Director, Engagement.
