Job Description

The Administration Department within Simpcw ensures overall coordination of the organization, serving all departments and Chief and Council.

Nature & Scope of Work:



Reporting to the Band Administrator, the incumbent works both independently and as part of a team. The role focuses on achieving clear and effective communication with Simpcw members about available services, developing and recommending effective communication strategies, and implementing plans for timely updates on issues and opportunities. The Communication and Tourism Coordinator supports all Simpcw departments in coordinating and promoting events, programs, and educational initiatives. The Communication Coordinator will play an integral role in initiating and executing internal and external communication, media relations and publication management with outcomes that support the Simpcw with overall goals and maintain a positive public image.

The secondary focus for the Communication and Tourism Coordinator will be to support advancing tourism initiatives for Simpcw. This includes coordinating with members, potential tourism partners and other departments to create a Tourism Plan for Simpcw that allows for culturally appropriate entry to the industry for Simpcw.

Skills & Qualifications:



oPost-Secondary education in the areas of Public Relations, Media Relations, Marketing, Communications or Tourism or a minimum of five years relevant work experience.

oExperience in the support, and administration of social media and websites, including experience in the writing and editing of content.

oAbility to coordinate and keep social media platforms, communications apps, and website up to date.

oWorking knowledge of best practices for social media use for organizations.

oExperience in tourism planning.

oExcellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to prepare communications for a wide variety of audiences.

oExperience in facilitation of large and small group discussions.

oGraphic design skills an asset.

oHighly organized and a demonstrated ability to manage time and multiple event deadlines.

oDemonstrated ability to build, support, and maintain a positive working relationship with media, governments, industry, and other Indigenous organizations.

oFamiliarity with Secwepemc culture and ability to work in a cross-cultural setting.

oUnderstanding and knowledge of stakeholder and community concerns.

oAbility to anticipate emerging issues and trends as relevant to Simpcw.

oAbility to understand, develop and maintain a budget.

oClass 5 BC Driver's License and a clean driver's abstract.

oName-based or Certified Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector check.

oMust have ability to take initiative, work in a team setting, cooperation, problem solving, and judgement skills.

oA willingness to support variable hours of work, as required.

Hours of Work:
Normal shift for this position is Monday to Friday, 7 hours per day.

Location of Work:
Chu Chua, BC.
