What Does a Communications Specialist Do?


The Communications Specialist works closely with the Communications Manager to contribute to initiatives that help improve the effectiveness of all communications functions throughout the organization. You are a brand ambassador who builds rapport with internal clients and externally with the public and our various stakeholders. With a commitment to performance excellence, you are focused on exploring new and innovative approaches that will enhance our internal communication programs and services and support our business.

As a Communications Specialist, You Will:


  • Create quality communications materials such as web copy, social media content, press releases, project briefs, newsletters, posters and pamphlets, presentations, reports, invitations email correspondence, employee messaging etc.
  • Develop compelling copy and edits internal and external content, with a focus on brand management and key messaging
  • Organize and coordinate corporate events and initiatives
  • Analyze quantitative and qualitative engagement feedback and develop tailored content to meet the needs of our stakeholders
  • Oversee project coordination, including managing and executing on timelines and tasks, for communications and engagement project delivery
  • Establish and maintain strategic partnerships with internal clients to develop communications tools that support their efforts
  • Combine traditional communication methods with leading edge tools and applications to enhance communication and raise public profile

What You'll Bring:


  • Post-Secondary education in Communications-related field is considered an asset
  • Graphic Design experience is considered an asset
  • 3-5 years corporate communications experience
  • Self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit and the ability to take initiative and execute on communications-based projects and initiatives
  • Ability to work efficiently and collaboratively within a team environment
  • Superb communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to engage an audience through storytelling, creating interest and excitement
  • Experience communicating with a variety of stakeholders both internal and external in a polished and professional manner
  • Agency and vendor management experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) as well as social media platforms, tools, and applications
