Role
The designer is responsible for designing communications systems including structured cabling, computer and LAN Room Layouts, inter-floor backbone (copper and fibre), surveys of existing sites and change management.
Responsibilities
Business Development
Work to develop strong, ongoing relationships with clients
General Management
Keep Group Lead appraised of activities.
Lead by example, following proper procedures.
Participate in training courses as requested.
Provide insightful and enthusiastic assistance to other staff.
Schedule workload appropriately, maximizing productive time.
Train and motivate other staff.
Work enthusiastically with the Group to accomplish common objectives.
Production
Actively pursues training.
Attend coordination meetings.
Be a technical resource for other Group Members, as well as the Firm as a whole.
Check drawings for quality control using checklist.
Comply with company Design Standards and CAD Standards.
Coordinate work with other disciplines including Mechanical, Electrical, Architectural and Structural.
Create working drawings with AutoCAD or mark-up drawings.
Design Systems in accordance with OBC, BICSI, TIA/EIA and/or other relevant Codes and Standards.
Follows quality control procedures.
Keep up to date on all aspects of communications, structured cabling, voice, data, security, AV and wireless equipment and practices as is necessary to prepare engineering documents.
Layout phone, data and wireless infrastructure on drawings.
Maintain design files in an organized and up-to-date fashion in accordance with company Project Management Standards.
Monitor CAD production.
Perform site audits to confirm existing conditions.
Prepare CCN and SI as required.
Prepare detailed equipment room layouts including sections.
Prepare detailed riser diagrams.
Provide periodic site reviews and attend site meetings as required during construction.
Report to Division Head any project related quality, speed or scheduling issue.
Review and comment on shop drawing submittals.
Size distribution, risers, entrance cables and infrastructure as required.
Track out of scope work requests and promptly prepare ASR's as required.
Skills & Qualifications
Ability to think independently
At least 3 years of experience in the Engineering Consulting industry
Detail oriented
Engineering Technologies
RCDD considered an asset
Excellent time management and organizational skills
Experience with reading and coordinating Mechanical, Electrical, Structural and Architectural drawings
Experience with Windows and general computer skills
Familiar with OBC, BICSI, TIA/EIA and other relevant Codes and Standards
Strong interpersonal communication skills
Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD
