Position Summary:

The mission of the
McGill Office of Sustainability (MOOS) is to create a culture of sustainability at McGill. We aim to identify, connect, and enhance efforts to incorporate principles of sustainability (environmental, social, and economic) into all areas of the University. MOOS provides the institutional memory and knowledge, the network of partnerships, the framework for sustainability at McGill (
Climate & Sustainability Strategy ), and the seed funding (
Sustainability Projects Fund ) to facilitate the sustainability efforts of students, faculty, and staff.

DUTIES
Under the supervision of the Communications Officer, the Social Media Intern is responsible for managing the MOOS Instagram account. This includes:
  • Creating posts to promote sustainability programs/projects at McGill and educate our audience about sustainability topics
  • Producing Reels about sustainability initiatives on campus and how to get involved
  • Photographing sustainability initiatives and events to use in social media posts and other communications materials
  • Attending and covering sustainability related events live on Instagram
  • Ensuring content is published on time according to the monthly content calendar
  • Engaging with our audience by posting interactive Stories, liking relevant posts, and replying to comments and direct messages
  • Building relationships with other McGill Instagram account managers to cross-share content and expand our reach
  • Collaborating with the Graphic Design Intern to create illustrated, text-based posts
  • Pitching content ideas and assisting in the development of monthly content calendars
  • Assisting with other MOOS social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn)


Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
  • Demonstrated experience creating content for Instagram, including producing and editing Reels and/or Tik Tok videos
  • Demonstrated photography experience in varied lighting conditions
  • Strong written communication skills, with experience writing for social media
  • Working knowledge of Instagram features and familiarity with social media trends
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision
  • Reliable, with strong organizational and time management skills
  • Interest in social media marketing, and environmental and social sustainability
  • Knowledge of sustainability initiatives and groups at McGill is an asset
