The Role
We are seeking a dynamic
Commissioning Manager
to lead all aspects of commissioning and start-up for our project. This is a
site-based position at Kearl Oil Sands
, where you will be responsible for planning and implementing the overall commissioning strategy, ensuring a safe, efficient, and systematic transition from construction completion to operations.

Job Duties/Responsibilities
Strategy & Planning: Develop and execute the comprehensive commissioning and start-up plan, including philosophy, schedule, and budget.
Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team of commissioning engineers, technicians, and contractors, fostering a collaborative and safety-first culture.
Systems Completion: Champion the systems completion process, from systemization and boundary definition through to handover. Oversee the population, management, and execution of check sheets and test procedures within the completions database.
Execution & Oversight: Direct all pre-commissioning, commissioning, and start-up activities, ensuring compliance with all project specifications, safety regulations, and quality standards.
Stakeholder Management: Serve as the primary point of contact for all commissioning-related matters, liaising with project management, engineering, construction, and client operations teams.
Safety & Compliance: Uphold the highest safety standards (HSE) throughout all commissioning phases. Ensure all work is performed in accordance with permits, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Reporting: Track and report on commissioning progress, performance metrics, and budget, proactively identifying and mitigating risks.
Education/Skills/Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or related field).
A minimum of 10-15 years of experience in a commissioning role within the oil and gas industry, with at least 5 years in a management or lead position on major projects.
Proven track record of successfully leading commissioning and start-up of large-scale facilities (e.g., SAGD, refineries, LNG, petrochemical plants).
In-depth knowledge of systems completion methodologies and processes is essential.
Direct experience with completions management software is highly desirable; specific experience with Hexagon Smart Completions is a strong asset.
Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to manage large, diverse teams.
Comprehensive understanding of process safety management (PSM) and safe work practices.
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation is preferred.
Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test
Must complete a criminal background check prior to starting
