Job Description

Located in Greenfield, Queens County, Nova Scotia, Freeman Lumber is a state-of-the-art sawmill manufacturing facility. Freeman Lumber is one of the oldest family-run sawmill businesses in North America. The Freeman family has operated mills in Greenfield, Nova Scotia since 1832. The family-owned business has continuously invested in the latest technologies to remain on the cutting edge.

We are currently looking for a full-time commercial driver/heavy equipment operator to join the Freeman Lumber Team. We are looking for an individual with a good work ethic, who is willing and able to be flexible and do what is required to keep the mill running in a safe and efficient manner.

Reporting to the wood-waste supervisor you will:

Service wood-waste hoppers with a tractor and 53' dry van. Haul wood-waste in the yard and unload in designated areas Operate a skid-steer under sawmill log decks to clean up bark Load tractor trailers with a wheel loader with a bucket Assist in the wood shavings bagging plant as required Conduct a pre-operational equipment inspection checklist before operating any equipment and identify any issues to supervisor that could impact safe operation of the equipment Perform basic maintenance on equipment Perform work in a safe manner in accordance with Freeman Lumber's safe work practices, policies and procedures Report all incidents, near-misses, and damage of the equipment to supervisor Identify any hazards impacting work area

Skills/Abilities:

Must be in good health and physical condition to perform duties Demonstrated ability to work safely and promote a safe working environment in accordance with our safety policies Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work in a fast-paced environment Apply a positive & optimistic attitude Works well under pressure

Education & Work Experience:

Work experience in operating heavy equipment and tractor trailer is an asset. Possess a valid Class 3 Driver's License with Air Brake endorsement. Class 1 is an asset. Must be qualified to work in Canada.

Schedule:

Monday to Friday alternating between a week of days and a week of evenings

Some weekend work may be required

Compensation:

$24.93 per hour based on experience

Standard work week - 45-50 hours per week
