Commercial Insurance Marketer

Saint Catharines, ON, Canada

Job Description

Commercial Insurance Marketer / Placement Specialist
Type: Hybrid | Full-Time Permanent or Contract
Location: Hamilton to Niagara Region, Ontario
About Our Client
Our client is a well-established, independent insurance brokerage in Ontario with a strong and respected presence in the Canadian commercial insurance market. Known for their deep carrier relationships and client-first approach, they specialize in delivering tailored risk management and insurance solutions to small businesses, mid-market organizations, and complex commercial enterprises.
Built on a foundation of integrity, collaboration, and long-term partnerships, this organization has earned a reputation for technical excellence, strategic thinking, and consistent growth. They are recognized for their ability to navigate challenging market conditions, develop innovative placement solutions, and advocate strongly on behalf of their clients.
What sets this opportunity apart is the ability to work at the center of the brokerage's commercial engine. This role plays a critical part in shaping market strategy, supporting producers in competitive situations, and influencing how complex risks are positioned and placed. For an experienced commercial insurance professional who thrives in a market-facing role and values both autonomy and collaboration, this is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact while continuing to grow alongside a highly respected brokerage team.
Key Responsibilities
As the Commercial Insurance Marketer, you will lead the marketing and placement of new business and renewals across Commercial Lines, including Small Business, Mid-Market, and Large Commercial accounts. You will provide exemplary service to the Sales and Client Service teams by building and fostering strong relationships with underwriters and insurers to deliver competitive, comprehensive coverage solutions and pricing strategies for clients.
This role supports Commercial Sales Producers by strengthening closing positions on new business and strategically reinforcing renewal strategies where accounts are under competitive or pricing pressure.
Your responsibilities will include:

  • Manage the marketing process in close collaboration with Client Executive teams on renewal business
  • Work on new business prospects in partnership with Producer teams
  • Arrange and participate in client and insurer presentations
  • Highlight and explain any special notations within insurer quotes when reviewing final proposals with Producers (e.g., claims-made wording, minimum premiums, subjectivities, program requirements, wording differences)
  • Negotiate premiums and terms with insurers when required
  • Review insurer policies for accuracy and completeness; develop policy wordings, including the issuance of manuscript documents where necessary
  • Prepare accurate, thorough, and compelling underwriting submissions
  • Maintain strong relationships with key insurers, including active involvement in escalation processes when required
  • Collaborate with insurers to develop coverage solutions that align with clients' evolving operations and emerging products
  • Report on the status of all new and renewal accounts handled by the Marketing Department
  • Assist in finding creative solutions for hard-to-place business rather than accepting initial market declines where viable alternatives exist
  • Act as a conduit between Producers, Account Managers, and underwriters to resolve issues efficiently, presenting a unified voice on behalf of the brokerage
  • Support the training and development of new Producers
  • Contribute ideas and initiatives that support the growth and advancement of Commercial Lines and the Marketing function
  • Identify areas within the Commercial Department that would benefit from new forms, procedures, or workflow improvements
  • Schedule and coordinate monthly sales meetings in partnership with the Sales Manager
  • Coordinate with department heads on cross-functional projects as required
  • Stay current on market conditions across all applicable lines of insurance
  • Seek new markets when existing options become restricted or unavailable
  • Negotiate and establish new insurance programs as opportunities arise, with a focus on strategic growth areas
Qualifications
To succeed in this role, candidates should demonstrate the following:
  • Minimum of five years' experience in a brokerage or insurance company environment, preferably in a commercial underwriting or marketer role
  • Professional insurance designation (CIP, CAIB, CRM) preferred, or actively working towards completion
  • RIBO license not required but considered an asset
  • Experience with Applied EPIC considered an asset
  • Strong technical and digital competency
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Collaborative team player with strong negotiation and organizational skills
  • Highly detail-oriented with proven time management capabilities
  • Flexible, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Strong understanding of customer needs and insurance market dynamics
  • Personal qualities including integrity, empathy, credibility, strong work ethic, and alignment with organizational vision and values
  • Willingness and flexibility to travel between branch and company offices as required
