Combined Lab & Radiology Technologist (clxt) Training Opportunity

Bella Bella, BC, Canada

Job Description

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is offering a training opportunity for Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technologists (CLXTs). Upon successful completion of the training program, successful candidates will be able to join our Clinical Laboratory/Medical Imaging teams working as a fully qualified CLXT at Heiltsuk Hospital in Bella Bella. This opportunity is available in Bella Coola and Bella Bella.

Cover letter and resume are required if applying for the Training Program.

The Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technology (CLXT) program is unique in that students are trained in both the medical laboratory and x-ray disciplines, and predominantly practice in rural communities. Upon completion of their training, graduates are able to perform general medical laboratory procedures and general diagnostic radiographic procedures. Students also receive training on information systems and technology in the medical laboratory and diagnostic imaging departments.

This program includes:

  • Completion of 38 weeks of in-person learning in Edmonton, Alberta in the first year
  • Completion of a 40 week in-hospital practicum in the second year (practicum locations include Bella Coola General Hospital, Heiltsuk Hospital in Bella Bella and potentially other facilities across VCH)
Candidates accepting this training opportunity agree to remain with Heiltsuk Hospital as regular status Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technologist for two (2) years subsequent to graduating.

This will ensure that candidates are able to consolidate and apply skills that VCH has supported and funded candidates to complete. In the event that a candidate leaves the CLXT role where they were hired, or VCH, in under two (2) years, VCH will seek to recover the cost of the program.

Selected applicants will enroll into and will commence their full time studies in September 2024. They will be placed on an unpaid educational leave for the duration of the CLXT training program. Participants must successfully complete the program within the allotted 2 year period.

This training education program requires full time attendance. Funding will consist of 100% of wages, tuition and books during the training program.

Successful candidates will be compensated for the duration of the program through a weekly stipend payment of $903.00 per week for living expenses.
