The role and responsibilities of a faculty member focus on the activities related to teachers, academics and scholars. They include but are not limited to an awareness of current scholarship and continuing mastery in one's field, instructional and professional duties, professional development, and service. In addition, duties and responsibilities may include scholarly activity.


Functions and Duties


Instructional duties may include all or any of the following: instructional (teaching) assignments; course preparation and program revision; development of new programs and modes of delivery; evaluation of student work; instruction of laboratory exercises, concepts, theories, techniques and use of equipment; student contact for purposes of advising, tutoring and supervision both in and outside of the lecture or laboratory period; revision and development of existing and/or new courses in all formats; preparation of materials for use in laboratories; set up and take down of laboratory materials; preparation of timetables; control of inventory, maintenance of equipment; ordering of materials; Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) and PLA coordination; and other functions related to instruction.



Professional development is activity intended to promote teaching excellence, subject area competence and technical competence in an area of professional or instructional expertise.



Service may include all or any of the following: school visitations; active membership on appropriate college or union committees, councils or boards; participation in professional or academic organizations; application of the employee's academic or professional competence or expertise in the community at large; attendance at articulation meetings; representing OC at other functions, administrative duties and other duties.



Scholarly activity includes scholarship, research and creative activities. A College Professor may be released from instructional and/or professional duties to perform scholarly activity


Education and Experience


The minimum qualification is a Master's degree, or an equivalent level credential as appropriate for the discipline.Independent, post-secondary or public school work experience directly related to the duty assignment.Graduate level training that enables sole responsibility for teaching undergraduate students in the area directly related to the teaching assignment. Experience demonstrating a learner-centered teaching philosophy is desired.


Skills and Abilities


Designs and teaches a course with regard for learning outcomes



Teaches in a variety of modes, including lecture, discussion, active student involvement and laboratory work as appropriate



Interested in use of appropriate technological aids in instruction



Open to feedback from others on ways to improve teaching and related activities



Knowledgeable about the subject matter of the teaching area and able to teach the subject matter at a post-secondary level



Maintains currency and vitality in one's discipline through professional activities, professional development and/or scholarship



Interested in course and program development



Collegial and willing to work constructively with others



Comfortable in a computerized environment and with programs relevant to instruction and academic discipline


Preferred Qualifications


The Electronic Engineering Technology Department (ELEN) is seeking a part-time college professor to teach one course in the ELEN Program -

ELEN

236 - Electronic Technology I

- at the Kelowna campus during the Winter 2026 semester.



Applicants with a degree or diploma in Electronics or Electrical Engineering/Technology (or similar program) will be considered. Membership with a professional Engineering and/or Technology Association is preferred.



Candidates should have theoretical knowledge, practical experience and teaching experience that includes (but is not limited to) some or all, of the following topics:

DC and AC circuit analysis Electronic devices Analog and digital communications Project management Project development - PCB design, assembly and high reliability soldering techniques C programming and embedded systems Networking and the Internet of Things




ELEN

236

is an introductory course in electronics for Mechanical Engineering Technology Students. Topics covered include electrical laws and theorems; magnetic and electromagnetic field concepts; AC theory; transformers; three-phase AC circuits; DC motors, generators and controls; batteries; analog and digital circuit devices; and industrial control circuits. The successful candidate will be expected to teach lecture and/or lab sections for the assigned course and to commit to their ongoing development. Duties will include teaching, holding regular office hours, marking all assignment and exams, and reporting grades. All courses have been taught previously and notes, assignments, labs, tests, etc. are available for instructor use.



The ideal candidate will have an exceptional industrial and teaching record with a demonstrated learner-centered teaching philosophy. The candidate must be committed to staying current in their field through active professional development and/or scholarly activity. Successful applicants will be an integral part of the team that will help Okanagan College realize the promise of a world-class college.

Classes Monday 8am-9:30am and Tuesday 9:30am to 11am

Labs Monday 12pm-2pm and Tuesday 1pm-3pm


Annual Salary/Hourly Rate

Salary range $71,846 to $115,129 with normal starting salary between $78,872 and $85,897 annually, dependent on relevant education and experience.
