Lead Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT)
to join our growing Emergency Services team (small animal).

About the Role
The
Co-Lead RVT - Emergency Services
is a working lead who provides day-to-day guidance, training, and oversight to the RVT team in the Emergency Department
and CSRs) to ensure smooth patient flow, effective communication, and consistent standards of care.
This is a
full-time, day-shift position (10-hour shifts) with rotation to cover weekdays, weekends, and holidays. The role
that balances hands-on clinical responsibilities with leadership, coordination, and mentoring.
This role provides:
Coaching, training, and mentorship
to Emergency RVTs
Daily direction and shift coordination
, ensuring optimal staffing and workflow.
Performance feedback and reviews
, in partnership with the RVT Manager
Assignment of duties and responsibilities
based on skill, experience, and case needs.
Active participation
on the floor fulfilling the RVT role.
Key Responsibilities
Function as a role model for clinical excellence, teamwork, and compassionate care oversee day-to-day operations and delegate responsibilities to ensure smooth ER flow.
Provide leadership, task allocation, and ensure that appropriate standards of care are provided and standard operating procedures are communicated and followed.
Support onboarding and training of new team members ensuring they have the skills and knowledge required for the role.
Sign off on skill list attainment for RVTs and ACAs and support RVT participation in the corporate LIFT program.
Mentor and coach employees to grow their skill set and efficiency.
Provide feedback to lead ACAs on performance of the ACA staff.
Leads departmental meetings, huddles, and debriefs where necessary.
Conduct regular coaching check-ins and conduct annual performance reviews.
Meet regularly with the RVT manager to provide department updates, and to discuss concerns and opportunities.
Participate in leadership meetings and operational meetings as required.
RVT Manager is responsible for scheduling and approval of vacation and other paid time off. The Co-Lead assist RVT manager in filling schedule gaps and allocating coverage of departments.
Ensure all RVTs are provided the opportunity for meal and rest breaks each day by scheduling a break and ensuring they take the break.
Collaborate with veterinarians, leads, and management to identify training opportunities and process improvements.
Participate in the full breadth of RVT duties in the emergency department.
Uphold hospital standards for safety, communication, and compliance.
Qualifications
Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT)
in good standing with the
Ontario Association of Veterinary Technicians (OAVT)
Minimum
3-5 years of emergency experience
preferred.
Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop others.
Effective communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
Demonstrated ability to remain calm and compassionate under pressure.
