Job Summary
The CNC Boring Mill Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining a CNC horizontal boring mill to machine precision steel components and plate according to specifications. This role requires strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Set up and operate CNC horizontal boring mills to machine steel plates, blocks, and components to precise tolerances
Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work orders to determine machining requirements
Select and install appropriate tooling, fixtures, and materials
Perform offset adjustments, tool changes, and program edits as needed
Inspect parts using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, height gauges, etc.)
Verify dimensions and surface finishes meet specifications and quality standards
Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring safe operation of equipment
Perform routine maintenance and report any mechanical issues to supervision
Collaborate with supervisors, quality inspectors, and other operators to meet production goals and maintain accuracy
Record production data and complete necessary documentation

Qualifications:
Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience operating and programming CNC boring mills or large CNC machining centers
Experience in 2D machining
Proficient in
Fusion 360
Strong understanding of machining processes, G-codes, and setup procedures
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and mechanical drawings
Experience with Heidenhain control
Proficient with measuring tools and precision inspection techniques
Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
Ability to work independently or in a team environment
Ability to multitask efficiently
Commitment to safety and quality standards
Assets (Preferred):
Experience with large steel or heavy industrial parts
Knowledge of manual machining operations
Forklift or overhead crane certification
Familiarity with tooling selection, feeds and speeds, and machining optimization
