Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and security-minded Cloud Engineer to join our Cloud Configuration and Compliance Squad within the Cloud Center of Excellence (CCoE) department at Sun Life. The ideal candidate will bring a strong blend of technical cloud expertise, security acumen, and operational discipline to ensure our cloud environments remain secure, compliant, and resilient. This dynamic, agile group of experts is dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of security and regulatory compliance in our cloud environment.
What will you do:

  • Regulatory Compliance Management: Ensure adherence to financial sector regulations and standards in cloud operations.
  • Compliance Reporting: Generate comprehensive reports on compliance status and initiatives.
  • Cloud Security Framework Implementation: Deploy and maintain robust security frameworks across our cloud infrastructure.
  • Automated Evidence Collection: Develop and manage systems for automated gathering of compliance evidence.
  • Risk Assessment Automation: Create and maintain automated tools for continuous risk evaluation.
  • Compliance Monitoring and Alerting: Implement real-time monitoring systems with proactive alerting for compliance issues.
  • Audit Support: Support audit and compliance reporting by maintaining accurate records of findings and resolutions.
  • Security Process Automation: Develop automated workflows to enhance security measures and reduce manual intervention.
  • Cloud Governance: Establish and enforce cloud governance policies and best practices.
  • Encryption and Secrets Management: Implement and manage robust encryption and secrets management solutions.
  • Compliance Vendor Engagement: Collaborate with compliance vendors such as CSA and AWS to ensure alignment with industry standards.
  • Collaborate with workload owners, CCoE, and Security Risk & Compliance (SRC) teams to ensure timely resolution of findings.
  • Track remediation progress against timelines defined in the Cloud Vulnerability Management Directive.
  • Align remediation efforts with internal directives (e.g., Cloud Operating Directive) and external frameworks (e.g., CSA CCM, ISO 27001, NIST 800-53).
What you need to succeed:
  • 5+ years of experience in cloud engineering or cloud security roles.
  • Deep expertise in AWS services (IAM, Lambda, EC2, Config, CloudTrail, etc.).
  • Hands-on experience with Cloud Native Security Platform.
  • Familiarity with compliance frameworks such as CSA CCM, ISO 27001, and NIST 800-53
  • Strong analytical and communication skills with the ability to influence cross-functional teams.
Preferred Skills:
  • Certifications: AWS Certified Security - Specialty, CISSP, or equivalent.
  • Experience working in a regulated or enterprise-scale cloud environment.
  • Knowledge of cloud governance models and resource authority matrices.
  • Strong coding skills, with a focus on automation and scripting.
  • Proficiency in developing and managing automation pipelines.
  • Familiarity with ServiceNow or similar ITSM platform

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
