About the role


As a Cloud Solutions Expert, you will be responsible for the overall development and design of a cost-effective hosting solution and implement a scalable, robust, high-performance cloud-based Infrastructure solution that meets the needs of CDIC's mandate applications / Infrastructure using cloud technologies.


This role can be performed from our Ottawa office, following a hybrid model approach. This is a full-time permanent opportunity. #LI-Hybrid

Design, plan, and deploy enterprise-scale Azure solutions, including secure landing zones with guardrails (Policy, Management Groups, RBAC, naming/tagging, subscription strategy) to enable scalable growth. Establish cost governance and FinOps practices (budgets, alerts, reservations, rightsizing, autoscaling) while applying Zero Trust principles and security baselines across identities, devices, networks, applications, and data; leverage Microsoft Defender for Cloud for posture management and Microsoft Sentinel for threat detection and response. Facilitate architecture reviews and lead technical design workshops with stakeholders; translate requirements into reference architectures for web/app/data tiers (12-factor, microservices where applicable) and define non-functional requirements (availability, performance, RPO/RTO). Build Infrastructure as Code (ARM/Bicep/Terraform) and implement CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps/GitHub Actions) for repeatable deployments; automate operations (patching, scaling, backups, configuration) using PowerShell, Azure CLI, DSC, and Azure Automation Runbooks. Implement end-to-end observability with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Application Insights, and alerting dashboards to ensure performance, reliability, and proactive issue detection. Lead technical discussions with that drive decisions and implementation approaches. Review and manage technical requirements and business functional requirements to establish new cloud platforms. Design architectures with Microsoft Azure to meet CDIC's technical, security, and business needs. Design, plan and execute on implementation plans to deploy Azure infrastructure and move workloads to Azure. Work with the business and partners to design a full-stack solution using best practices to fully integrate CDIC's existing and future cloud infrastructure, ensuring it meets all business requirements. Administer, monitor, and maintain CDIC services within its Azure tenant and office 365. Overseeing and implementing cloud security. Completing the integration of new applications into the cloud environment. Offering training and guidance to all whose roles bring them into contact with the cloud structure. Management of usage of space in the cloud and making sure the structure is operating at full efficiency. Conducting migration, where necessary, to bring tools and other elements into the cloud. Working with virtualization technologies to achieve effective server management for the business. Propose suggestions and best practices to optimize customers' cloud presence, performance, security, and cost. Responsible for the evaluation of technical risks and map out mitigation strategies. Carry out debugging, troubleshooting, modifications, and unit testing of solutions built on the CDIC's on-premises and cloud platforms. Develop new specs, documentation; and partake in the development of technical procedures and user support guides. Evaluate cloud applications, hardware, and software at regular intervals. Develop and organize cloud systems and work closely with IT security to monitor the company's cloud privacy. Provide prompt response to technical issues in a professional manner. Provide complex Local Area Network (LAN) administration functions, including network operating system privileges, infrastructure configuration, network problem troubleshooting, security, performance monitoring, maintenance of physical data center hardware and computing appliances. Monitor network performance and system logs and adjust system resource allocation to ensure maximum performance. Deploy, test, support and maintain corporate applications for deployment via various deployment techniques utilizing tools such as but not limited to; SCCM, Group Policy, scripts, PDQ, App-v. Provide technical expertise in the implementation, support and operation of CDIC's disaster recovery plan, through the planning and design of the related infrastructure. and the development of recovery and other procedures related to server operation and maintenance, to ensure the back-up and recoverability of corporate information. Assist or lead with new IT projects by investigating options and making recommendations as to what systems, hardware and software changes are appropriate for CDIC.

Microsoft Certified Azure Solutions Architect Expert Level Certification. Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer certificate or equivalent is an asset. Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) is an asset. Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) is an asset VMWare Certified Professional certification is an asset. Excellent communication skills to be capable of communicating and presenting complex information to technical and non-technical stakeholders, both verbally and in written form to clarify end-user requirements, communicate complex technical terminology and provide explanations to non-technical users. Knowledge of enterprise infrastructure solutions, including enterprise directories, on-premises hosting platforms (vSphere/Hyper-V), and data centre storage and networking. Knowledge of cloud system engineering principles and considerations A strong desire for personal development and learning Client relationship skills and experience managing vendors Understanding of scaling technologies and solutions Ability to act independently and make decisions based on solid technical expertise and experience Strong understanding of multi-region environments and global connectivity requirements Strong understanding of security/compliance requirements as it relates to Azure services and regions Conceptual thinking and well-developed problem-solving skills In-depth knowledge and understanding of virtualization, disaster recovery frameworks and practices and data storage modelling. Ability to work independently and in a team environment Ability to handle stress appropriately and interact well with others

Computer Science Degree or equivalent. 5 + years of relevant Microsoft Azure design & delivery experience 5 + years of experience in networking, network connectivity, directory services, databases, operating systems, inter-process communications, Storage Area Networking, VMware virtualization software and disaster recovery planning, implementation, and management 5 + years of experience in providing 2nd/3rd level SME support to end users Experience and comfort with delivering technical design workshops for management. Experience in cloud architectures, including web, application, and database components. Experience with Azure Resource Manager, Resource Groups, Virtual Networks, Azure Virtual Machines, Azure Blob Storage, PowerShell DSC, Azure Automation, Azure Active Directory, and Azure Site Recovery. Experience with Microsoft Entra ID features: Conditional Access, Privileged Identity Management (PIM), and identity governance. Experience with Azure Governance and Best Practices (Role-Based Access Control, Networking Architectures, Cost Management controls, etc.) Experience establishing Azure landing zones with Policy, Management Groups, RBAC, naming/tagging, and subscription strategy Experience with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Application Insights, and Microsoft Sentinel for observability and security operations. Understanding of Azure SQL Database, Azure Functions, Logic Apps, Azure DevOps preferred Experience with migration readiness and planning tools (ex., Azure Migrate, Azure Site Recovery Planner). Experience with infrastructure automation, including configuration management (Puppet, Chef, or PowerShell DSC) and infrastructure provisioning (ARM Templates or Terraform) Experience with scripting languages (PowerShell / CLI) for deployment and management on Azure Current VMware and Data Center Administration certifications are considered an asset Extensive experience, but not limited to, managing, and optimizing Windows Server 2008, 2012, 2016 and 2019. Active Directory Domain Services, DNS, DHCP, Microsoft Exchange, VMware 6.5, Azure Cloud Services, Office 365, SQL. Good knowledge of access control lists, advanced Group Policy Management, Windows Deployment Services and Windows Server Update Services management. Extensive knowledge of storage and back-up solutions, Veeam backup and replication and NetApp. Azure Backup and Site Recovery is an asset Excellent knowledge of best practices around ITSM change management, Problem management and Incident management.
