Utilizing advanced clinical knowledge contributes to the efficiency of service delivery and advancement of practice and interventions. Working within the organization s framework and standards, as a member of a interdisciplinary treatment team with a focus on short-term counselling, the Mental Health Clinician, provides advanced clinical practice and interventions relating to assessment, intervention, treatment, outreach and/or consultation, and referral for clients and their caregivers/families experiencing mental health and substance use problems. Travel may be a requirement of this position and transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of the Vancouver Island Health Authority.QUALIFICATIONS:Education, Training And ExperienceMasters Degree in a health related discipline from an approved post-secondary institution.Three (3) years recent related experience including two (2) years\' recent related experience in the substance use or concurent disorder field.A minimum of 2 years\' experience working within/with Indigenous Communities which can be demonstrated by meeting two or more of the following:

  • Experience working collaboratively with and/or within Indigenous health and wellness organizations, through the provision of servics to Indigenous individuals and families;
  • Experience with the delivery of a health service/program/project which is inclusive of Indigenous teachings, knowledge or cultural practice;
  • Extensive knowledge of Indigenous and non-Indigenous health and wellness sercies available on Vancouver Island.
Knowledge of mental health and alcohol and drug addiction issues; psychiatric and suicide /homicide risk assessments, psychiatric and addictions treatment methodologies, crisis intervention and response techniques and strategies, the change process, and community dynamics;Significant knowledge of available programs and services, their interrelationships, and their function in delivering services in the community;Knowledge of applicable legislation, such as the Mental Health Act and the Guardianship Act; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.Valid BC Driver\'s License.Skills And Abilities
