Clinicians focus primarily on developing and maintaining a therapeutic environment, generating appropriate treatment plans and providing therapeutic services to children and youth in collaboration with social workers, family, and team members. The clinician is also responsible for obtaining appropriate assessments and for tracking progress and making adjustments to treatment plans as required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Works as part of a multidisciplinary team to assess, coordinate care, and provide treatment for children and youth with behavioural, emotional, or mental health challenges including substance use;
Conducts psychosocial assessments and develops, implements, and monitors individualized treatment plans to support each youth's growth and development.
Facilitates psychoeducation sessions and individual child counselling according to a variety of theoretical models;
Understands individual's psychological, educational, physical, spiritual, and social needs and actively promotes these;
Promotes a therapeutic milieu and provides guidance, modeling, and feedback to staff on implementing treatment plans.
Participates in case conferences and, in conjunction with the Program Coordinator, ensures that these meetings are held in a timely fashion and in accordance with the licensing standards of the facility;
Completes and submits quarterly progress reports, in collaboration with the Program Coordinator, to the appropriate agency within 10 days of the progress meeting;
Participates in service coordination meetings and advocates for client's needs, providing a clinical perspective;
Participates in determining suitability of placements through collaboration with the Program Manager;
Documents treatment plans and interventions according to charting standards, ensuring information is factual, legible and comprehensive.
Contributes to the safe de-escalation of crisis situations;
Collaborates with the Program Coordinator to provide guidance and leadership to the treatment team;
Participates in group home/unit staff meetings to discuss program concerns, clinical treatment issues and unit management;
Demonstrates an active commitment towards professional growth and advancement through participation in training, workshops, etc.;
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, Occupational Therapy, or a related field (or currently completing a Master's).
Minimum of three years' experience providing clinical support including treatment planning to at-risk youth is required;
Experience working from a trauma-informed perspective is essential;
Thorough knowledge of attachment theory, attachment styles and the impact of attachment disruption is essential;
Knowledge and experience in issues and supports related to addictions, harm reduction strategies, and/or sexual exploitation preferred;
Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively within multi-disciplinary and cross-agency teams.
Mental health/crisis training certifications including NVCI (Non-Violent Crisis Intervention) and ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills) are considered an asset;
Experience in the planning and facilitation of group therapy programs;
Knowledge of Indigenous culture, or willingness to learn, including participating in cultural practices, programming and ceremonies alongside youth;
Knowledge of planning, implementation and evaluation of client treatment plans;
Must be comfortable and competent in crisis de-escalation and behaviour management;
Valid First Aid/CPR is required;
Valid class 5 driver's license, access to a reliable vehicle, and satisfactory driver's abstract;
Satisfactory Criminal Record and clear Vulnerable Sector checks, Clear Child Abuse Registry and satisfactory Prior Contact checks;
Must be available to participate on an on-call rotation;
Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
Demonstrated decision making and problem solving skills;
Working knowledge of computers and experience with Microsoft Office software.
