Responsibilities

The Borderline Personality Disorder Treatment Program (BPDTP) is an outpatient, tertiary care program that provides comprehensive and intensive treatment for adults with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). The treatment approach is primarily Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), however also draws on process experiential, mentalization, and interpersonal therapy approaches. Team members contribute to the academic mandate of the Addictions and Mental Health Program through program evaluation, clinical research, teaching, clinical supervision, and consultation to other teams and services within the Addictions and Mental Health Program.

We are pleased to announce a 0.5 FTE long term assignment Clinical Therapist position to the service. Reporting to the Health Service Manager, Specialty Mental Health Services and the Clinical Director, BPDTP the Clinical Therapist will be part of an interdisciplinary team providing adult mental health services in the specialized area of BPD. They will provide direct clinical care by performing therapy both individually and in a group setting.

Consultation is an integral part of the program. As such, the Clinical Therapist will be expected to participate in weekly team consultation meetings and individual supervision as required. Debriefing after groups and informal consultation where concerns arise are also considered necessary within the team structure.

The Clinical Therapist must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and be able to function both independently and as a member of a health care team.

It is an expectation that the Clinical Therapist will act in a professional and ethical manner, following all recognized codes of ethics, standards, legislation, and guidelines relevant to clinical practice and profession. They will convey respect and a solid understanding of subtle and complex diversity and inclusion issues as they relate to specific groups.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a clinical health-related discipline (Masters in Social Work, Psychology (Registered, Masters), Masters in Counseling, Masters in Nursing, Masters in Occupational Therapy)
  • Current registration with relevant provincial regulatory body
  • Two years' related clinical experience required (including biosocial assessment, risk assessment and planning, treatment and intervention and discharge planning)
  • Experience providing comprehensive and specialized treatment to individuals with BPD. Knowledge of and experience with comprehensive Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and/or Mentalization-Based Therapy Programs are particular assets.
  • Knowledge and experience with the use of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and motivational enhancement
  • Knowledge of and experience providing evidence-based interventions for a range of mental health problems
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in crisis intervention, suicide and violence risk assessment/ intervention
  • Ability to advocate for the client and liaise (when required) with families, insurance, or community agencies.
  • Training and experience in group treatment
  • Capacity for dealing with challenging clinical situations
  • Ability to work independently and as an effective member of a team
  • Self-directed in his/her practice and ongoing learning
  • Excellent work record and attendance, and physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Salary Information

$36.59 - $48.10 Hourly
