Reporting to the Program Manager, the Clinical Team Lead provides coaching, clinical guidance, and operational support to the clinical team in the Pathways Assertive Outreach (PAO) program, delivering training and leadership grounded in the Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) Model. This role ensures team flexibility and responsiveness to meet the needs of individuals experiencing persistent mental illness, high emergency service utilization, and barriers to accessing psychiatric care, housing, and substance use services. Using a range of strategies, the Clinical Team Lead supports participants in achieving stability and wellness while reintegrating into the community. Guided by participant-centered decision-making, the Lead ensures that appropriate services and evidence-based practices are employed to promote rehabilitation and long-term community integration.


This is a

full-time, contract term position until October 2026

, with the possibility of extension.

What You Will Do




Program Philosophy

Uphold the principles of ACT Model, Harm Reduction, and Trauma Informed Care. Understand the Mental Health Act and Community Treatment Orders. Understand and follow program policies and procedures.

Team Management

Provide overall leadership, management, and direction to direct reports. Lead day-to-day operations of a multidisciplinary team (recruitment, orientation, scheduling, payroll, recognition, and performance management). Coordinate staff onboarding/off-boarding and support ongoing professional development. Foster a culture where all staff practice to full scope, receive mentorship, and pursue professional growth. Provide strong leadership and cultivate a culture of excellence, accountability, self-care, innovation, and collaboration. Serve as a resource on emerging research, best practices, and methodologies relevant to social work. Guide staff in ethical decision making and ensure compliance with relevant policies and regulations. Ensure the team members understand the Mental Health Act and Community Treatment Orders.

Program Administration

Monitor and analyze outcome data to inform program development and decision making. Coordinate with the Clinic Manager to address service delivery, prepare department budgets, and handle administrative and community-related matters. Lead the preparation and submission of funding reports and support the development of proposals as required. Monitor program budgets and program spending and anticipate program needs to inform future budgets and fund development opportunities. Serve as a positive ambassador for The Alex within the community, fostering trust and strong relationships through respectful engagement and representation.

Program Standards

Support the Clinic Manager with continuous improvement and innovation in service delivery to enhance participant-centered, culturally safe, effective programs. Define and communicate program goals, expected outcomes, and key achievements. Participate in developing, measuring and collecting program and funder outcomes. Collaborate with internal and external partners to strengthen service integration and maximize impact. Ensure that staff maintain proper documentation and compliance with program, agency, and professional college requirements. Manage and oversee Community Treatment Orders and apprehensions in consultation with physicians. Deliver direct front-line support, including ACT services. Assist participants with system navigation, advocacy, and referrals. Maintain participant oversight. Monitor participants housing status, lead team in tenant discussions, and coordinate participant's plans for housing needs. Deliver psychoeducation through group sessions, individual visits, and in collaboration with partners and natural supports. Understand and support participants with medication assistance as required. Work collaboratively with program participants, families, and community partners to assist participants in achieving treatment and recovery goals. Collaborate, implement, and document operational workflows. Oversee workplace health & safety, privacy, and information management and medical record stewardship. Monitor the appropriate data repository to ensure client demographics and client instrument bundles are fully completed at scheduled intervals. Assist in the development of relevant policies and procedures. Supervise and monitor crisis situations. Perform additional duties as assigned.

What You Bring



A bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Community Rehabilitation, or a related field is required. A combination of education and experience may be considered. Active registration with a professional discipline in Alberta is preferred. A minimum of 5 years' experience working with vulnerable populations with significant mental health and substance use challenges. A minimum of two to three years' experience in a management/supervisory position is preferred. Demonstrated competence in organizational, managerial, and administrative skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency using Microsoft Suite and information management platforms and a willingness to learn additional software as required. Comfort in supervising professionals outside of one's own discipline. Commitment to contributing positively to team culture. Comfort meeting individually with participants in the community in a broad variety of settings, with a safety-first mindset. Knowledge of evidence-based interventions. Openness to a wide scope of practice with commitment to innovation and flexibility. Willingness to support participants with housing needs and daily living skills. Strong initiative in times of limited supervision. Availability to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the program. Class 5 driver's license, personal vehicle for business use, clean 3-year drivers abstract, and $2 million liability coverage are required. A minimum of 21 years of age and three (3) years of driving experience is required to drive an Alex fleet vehicle. First Aid (Basic or Intermediate) - Level C CPR & AED within 30 days of hire date; certification must be valid for a minimum of 6 months upon hire. A satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal record clearance is required. Demonstrated knowledge, understanding and commitment to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: Calls to Action is preferred.

Work Environment and Hours



Work environment is split between in-office at The Alex Community Health Centre (2840-2 Avenue SE, Calgary, AB) and outreach; single clinician visits in program participant homes. Standard hours are 8:30 am - 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday; flexibility in crisis situations is required. 24-hour on-call services on a rotating schedule is required. 1.0 FTE (37.5 hours/week) Contract term position until October 2026. Continuous extended periods of sitting, with some standing and walking. Frequent driving is part of work duties. Occasional climbing and carrying objects (up to or over 20 lbs.) up or down stairs throughout shift. Occasional physical activity requires the ability to bend/crouch, reach above shoulder height, and kneel/crawl. Occasional time outside in all weather conditions.

Driving on Behalf of The Alex




This position requires the use of a personal vehicle for work-related purposes and driving an Alex fleet vehicle. Successful candidates must show proof of a class 5 driver's license, a personal vehicle, and a clean 3-year drivers abstract. Candidates must consent to the possibility of an annual driver's abstract review to meet our insurance provider's requirements and to maintain $2 million liability insurance on their personal vehicle. Driving a fleet vehicle at The Alex requires that staff are at least 21 years of age with a minimum of three (3) years' driving experience. Mileage will be reimbursed in alignment with the CRA guidelines.
