This role is in-person. Work primarily takes place at North Campus, Edmonton.


The University Health Centre (UHC) is a medical clinic within Student Success and Experience that offers primary health care to the U of A community. Committed to providing diverse and inclusive support, the UHC delivers comprehensive medical care through a combination of appointment and same-day services with a multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, occupational therapists, and specialist services.


Reporting to the Operations Lead and working in a collaborative cross-team environment, the Clinical Support Specialist is responsible for clinical support throughout the University Health Centre (UHC). Registration, patient flow and rooming, records management, and answering patient inquiries are all administrative functions of this role. This position works in a physically demanding environment that includes long periods of standing and walking throughout the day.


Student Success and Experience (formerly Office of the Dean of Students) holds student support at the heart of everything we do. We provide services focused on student well-being and flourishing both in the classroom and beyond. We offer a wide range of services, including career guidance, health and wellness resources, academic support, and assistance for students facing unexpected challenges or personal difficulties. We also work closely with faculty and staff across campus to ensure students receive coordinated support when they need it most.unexpected challenges or personal difficulties. Provides reception services to UHC patients; greets and directs patients to appropriate area, registers patients for medical visits and responds to phone inquiries. Books appointments using an electronic medical record system. Manages and maintains all patient records and processes patient information requests while adhering to privacy requirements. Provides administrative medical support services to the physicians that include booking diagnostic appointments for patients and recalling patients for follow-up. Receives patient payments as required. Ensures that medical inventories are maintained and medical supplies are sufficiently stocked with appropriate supplies; includes cleaning medical instrument. Minimum High School Diploma, supplemented by Medical Terminology certification; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered. Minimum two years of experience, preferably in a medical setting. Experience working with Electronic Medical Records system, preferably QHR Accuro. Level 1 CPR and First Aid. Experience with blood pressure machines. Excellent organizational and time-management skills. Up to date with all immunizations. Ability to work in a physically demanding environment that includes long periods of standing and walking.
