Join the innovative Road to Recovery Program as a Regular Part-Time Clinical Support Clerk/Porter and play a vital role in supporting patients on their transformative journey towards a healthier future.

Reporting to the Patient Care Manager or designated supervisors, and receiving work direction from Clinical Nurse Leaders, Charge Nurses, and Physicians, you will perform a range of porter, clerical, secretarial, and admitting responsibilities within the clinical area(s). Key duties include transporting patients, equipment, and supplies, as well as cleaning and stocking equipment, cupboards, and carts. As a Clinical Support Clerk/Porter, you will also assist in transmitting information to visitors, patients/clients, family members, hospital staff, and other individuals by providing guidance and directing them to the appropriate personnel or locations within the hospital. This role involves scheduling and booking appointments, facilitating admissions, transfers, and discharges, as well as performing secretarial and clerical tasks such as maintaining patient/client records, coordinating the distribution of test results, performing reception duties, and handling data entry and supply ordering. Qualifications / Skills and Education

Education
  • Grade 12, two year\'s recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education,
training and experience.

Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to keyboard at 40wpm.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Greet and screen individuals entering the clinical area following established procedures to ensure security and safety.
  • Identify the purpose of visitors and provide necessary information, addressing their queries and concerns.
  • Escort individuals to their assigned rooms, ensuring a comfortable and positive experience throughout their stay.
  • Safely transport patients and their belongings using appropriate equipment such as wheelchairs or stretchers, with assistance when needed.
  • Maintain stock levels of ward supply carts and complete required paperwork for inventory management.
  • Ensure cleanliness and tidiness of equipment such as wheelchairs, IV poles, and carts, following cleaning schedules.
  • Fulfill supply requests promptly, including picking up/dropping off specimens, medications, and miscellaneous items.
  • Retrieve and deliver equipment from Bio-Medical Engineering, ensuring its proper location and functionality.
  • Facilitate communication between hospital staff, physicians, patients, and visitors via appropriate channels.
  • Schedule and book patient appointments, confirming details with external parties and providing necessary documentation.
  • Verify patient records in the computerized system, ensuring accurate booking of requested procedures.
  • Assist with admission, transfer, and discharge processes, collecting required information and obtaining necessary signatures.
  • Follow up on patient services, including managing diet tray orders, collecting and storing patient belongings, and distributing surveys or research packages.
  • Coordinate and schedule appointments for diagnostic tests, offering pre-appointment instructions to patients.
  • Adhere to downtime procedures and maintain relevant reports in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Provide support to clinical area processes, such as contacting Switchboard or following specified codes as per procedures.
  • Handle various administrative tasks, including typing, organizing meetings, and maintaining databases and reports.
  • Arrange transportation for patient transfers or appointments, ensuring timely arrangements with patient escorts or designated drivers.
  • Manage office supplies, replenishing stock as needed, and maintain cleanliness of work areas.
  • Monitor designated communication channels, reporting staff illness or absences to supervisors or charge nurses.
  • Perform assigned duties efficiently and effectively, contributing to the smooth operation of the clinical area.
