Overview

Our claims management team provides care and support to people who have been injured at work. As a registered nurse working as a Clinical Specialist Nurse with the claims team, you\xe2\x80\x99ll partner with people who have been seriously injured at work or diagnosed with a potentially fatal occupational disease, their families, hospital staff, physicians, and community agencies to develop clinical care plans.

Your work will involve a broad range of services, from hospital discharge planning to coordinating in-home care. Where you\xe2\x80\x99ll work

WorkSafeBC, we offer a hybrid work model that combines the convenience of working remotely with the dynamism of working in one of our offices, based on the operational needs of the position.

In this role, you\xe2\x80\x99ll work primarily from your B.C. home and occasionally at our Richmond office.

What you\'ll do

  • Provide urgent response service when the protocol for serious and multiple incidents is deployed
  • Develop treatment and care plans in collaboration with the claim management team for a variety of clinical scenarios including, but not limited to, hospital discharge planning, wound care, daily living support, residential care, palliative care, medically assisted dying, treatment for substance abuse, and in-patient psychiatric admission
  • Initiate and conduct community outreach visits to develop and/or update a worker\xe2\x80\x99s home care plan
  • Obtain, review, and interpret information about current medical status, functional abilities, disability duration, and clinical practice guidelines within hospital, psychiatric, and addictions treatment facility settings
  • Contact workers, treating physicians, and healthcare providers to establish professional relationships and collaborative approaches to assist in recovery
  • Provide information on best practices for treatment
  • Make decisions about appropriate diagnostic referrals and consultations
  • Weigh evidence and interpret policy to determine workers\xe2\x80\x99 eligibility for independent and home maintenance and personal care allowances

We\xe2\x80\x99re looking for someone who can:
  • Create and implement clinical care plans over the life span of an injured worker
  • Make decisions about appropriate diagnostic referrals and consultations
  • Coordinate in-home nursing care and follow related triage processes across multiple stages of care including acute hospital, rehabilitation, and residential care settings
  • Facilitate discussions with various stakeholders including, but not limited to, family members, physicians, caregivers, therapists, and social workers in an effective manner with care and compassion
  • Make timely, independent decisions by applying law and policy to a set of complicated and challenging facts that address health care benefit issues
  • Accurately record, explain, and defend detailed and complex information orally and in writing
  • Support workers with their physical and psychosocial needs by providing emotional support, empathy, and compassion
  • Travel frequently and be able to travel and stay overnight on an urgent basis
Your background and experience
  • A university degree in nursing
  • In good standing with the College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia and have a current license to practice in B.C.
  • A minimum of two years of work experience as a registered nurse with directly related experience that includes performing disability management activities and home care planning
  • A valid B.C. driver\xe2\x80\x99s license
