The Clinical Science Liaison (CSL) position is a non-promotional role, responsible for ensuring that Primary Care clinical practice leaders have the disease awareness, product understanding and tools to support the safe and effective use of AstraZeneca medicines. The CSL role addresses the increasing needs of an ever-expanding group of clinical practice leaders who are looking for up-to-date, candid, and accurate medical information, and/or who are seeking innovative ideas to facilitate improvements in patient care. Therefore, in addition to Scientific Exchange, AstraZeneca CSLs play a meaningful role in facilitating the development and implementation of practice-changing initiatives and in enabling HCPs to identify at-risk patients.

This field role reports into the Medical Department and works closely with field-based customer-facing roles in Medical Affairs (e.g., Medical Science Liaison) and Commercial (e.g., Sales Representatives). AstraZeneca CSLs also work with other internal partners (marketing, market access, policy groups) by providing medical support, and in collaboration towards accomplishing common goals.

The successful candidate for this role:

Develops peer-to-peer scientific partnerships with community thought leaders, including but not limited to primary care physicians, hospital allied healthcare staff and diverse healthcare decision makers to ensure therapeutic area.

Understands the local healthcare system and develops relationships with key decision-makers in primary care.

Uses their clinical practice experience to lead improve delivery and impact of disease education programs and latest clinical data target audiences

Works closely with the medical community to support evidence-based changes in medical practice, including Guideline implementation, patient identification and practice change within their territory.

Reactively supports the community in the implementation of customized practice-changing initiatives, which lead to the identification of patients requiring Guideline-recommended improvements in care.

Seizes opportunities to connect HCPs across their own region or across the country for the purpose of sharing best practices to improving patient care.

Responds to unsolicited requests for product information from clinical practice leaders.

Supports HCP speaker training.

Supports the clinical operations team in identifying new study investigators.

Delivers medical training on assigned products to improve sales representatives\xe2\x80\x99 scientific knowledge and understanding.

Gathers scientific insight from clinical practice leaders to help shape brand strategies

Participates in Key Account Management meetings at local/community healthcare institutions and accounts

Serves as an expert for internal partners on products within assigned therapeutic area and on the primary care landscape in their region; maintains up-to-date scientific knowledge on therapeutic areas through independent study and assigned training

Collect and report Adverse Events in accordance with AstraZeneca policies and SOPs.

Essential Requirements

Relevant Clinical Practice degree with clinical experience (e.g., Respiratory Therapist, Nurse, Pharmacist, Primary Care Physician etc.). Advanced non-clinical scientific degree (MSc or PhD) may be considered.

Strong interpersonal, presentation and communication skills

Self-starter \xe2\x80\x93 entrepreneurial

Highly collaborative approach to working with medical and cross-functional teams

Ability to understand and discuss complex medical data, and able to simplify that data into impactful, clinically relevant key medical messages

Ability to interact and manage a range of stakeholders both internally and externally

Understanding of local healthcare systems

Project management skills

Knowledge of the R&I therapeutic area

Committed to improving patient care

Prior experience of the pharmaceutical industry is not required but is an asset.
