About This Team

At Mount Sinai Hospital's Cardiac Catheterization Research Laboratory (CCRL), clinical care and research go hand in hand. We are a small but compassionate team comprised of Cardiologists, RNs, MRTs and grad students. Together, we perform advanced procedures such as angiograms, pacemaker implantation, and exercise right heart catheterization tests, tailoring each step to meet the unique needs of our patients. Alongside providing personalized care, we are deeply committed to research, continuously adapting to new protocols that aim to improve outcomes for patients with heart failure and pulmonary hypertension. With a focus on precision, open communication, and collaboration, our team ensures both exceptional care and meaningful contributions to the field of cardiovascular medicine.

In this role you will:

Establish and maintain excellent public and working relationships Prepare laboratory for planned clinical and research activities Receive patients into the CCRL and ensure readiness for procedure. Identify and address any omissions in their preparation Demonstrate competency in operating all equipment in the CCRL Demonstrate proficiency in the three distinct nursing roles during a procedure; scrub nurse, circulating nurse and monitoring nurse Communicate any concerns of the research subject to other members of the team; advocate on the research subject's behalf as necessary Ensure patient's dignity, comfort and safety are maintained Initiate appropriate action in response to changes in patient's status or condition Accurately report and record changes in the patient's condition and all other relevant information Monitor patient's post-procedure and communicate all relevant information to the unit nurse upon transfer from CCRL Check emergency equipment and restock supplies daily and as needed Physiology lab protocols will necessitate nursing support in venipuncture, IV therapy, hemodynamic monitoring, on-site specimen processing and pharmacologic preparation and administration Participate in Quality Assurance activities, the orientation of new staff members and policy/procedure development Attend educational programs relating to the CCRL Accept personal responsibility for professional development Other duties as assigned by the Nurse Manager and/or Medical Director Job Requirements

Job Responsibilities:

Mandatory


Current certificate of registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) Minimum 2 years ICU/CCU experience
Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification

Preferred


Previous research experience
2 years Cath Lab experience

Skills and Knowledge


Sound knowledge base in arrhythmia interpretation, defibrillation, hemodynamic monitoring and drug administration Commitment to professional practice and personal development Commitment to shared leadership and team based decision making Superior interpersonal and communication skills Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance history

Note:

This role requires the ability to wear a lead apron weighing approximately 20lbs in a standing position for the duration of procedures lasting up to 3 hours.
