The Women\'s College Research Institute is seeking a part time Clinical Research Manager to develop the smooth and efficient day-to-day operation of clinical research activities within the JIA Young Adult Clinic at Women\'s College Hospital (WCH).

The Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis Young Adult Clinic Research Program at WCH is a dynamic, forward thinking program led by Dr. Natasha Gakhal and Dr Evelyn Rozenblyum who work closely with The Hospital for Sick Children. We are looking for a dynamic and experienced clinical research manager to establish our program and contribute to its growth and development.

The Clinical Research Manager will report to the program director and is responsible for the recruitment, onboarding, training and supervision of staff and students/trainees including workload distribution; oversight of the activation and conduct of academic and industry sponsored trials including the development and standardization of processes and monitoring for quality and regulatory compliance; development and coordinating process improvements that contribute to high quality research studies and regulated trials; oversight of the financial management of the program including budget planning, development and cost recovery; development and monitoring of key performance indicators in alignment with the hospital\'s strategic plan; and organizing and facilitating operational meetings with internal and external stakeholders.

Summary of Duties, but not limited to:

  • Monitors the progress of JIA Young Adult Clinic research activities; develops and maintains records of research activities; prepares periodic and ad hoc reports, as required by investigators and funding agencies
  • Identifies threats and risk factors to project completion and works with team members including research assistants, coordinators and scientists to develop solutions
  • Works with relevant WCH departments to develop and establish research contracts
  • Prepares itemized budgets with appropriate justification for grant applications and negotiate industry budgets
  • Supports the generation, ethics approval, conduct, and analysis of various data collection tools
  • Supports in the conduct of research study visits
  • Supports in the development and submission of grant applications
  • Maintains financial records for projects, monitors spending against budget, completes projections, and works to ensure the financial sustainability of the program
  • Responsible for oversight of all project research databases and records
  • Plans and coordinates the personnel of research studies including the recruitment and administration of research support staff
  • Manages team research coordinators, research assistants, and research students/trainees

Qualifications
  • Masters degree in Health Administration, Business Administration, Public Health, Health Science and/or other related field
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible and related experience in clinical research, including previous experience in a supervisory role
  • CCRP designation in clinical research or a PMP designation in project management, preferred
  • Advance knowledge of the Canadian regulations and Good Clinical Practices (GCP)
  • Experience with preparation of relevant materials such as research ethics board applications and grant submissions
  • Experience guiding new projects through review, approval and implementation
  • Experience with industry-sponsored research required
  • Previous research experience specializing in cardiology, preferred
  • Experience with budget planning/monitoring/managing and financial reporting
  • Experience prioritizing and working in a dynamic environment with strong management skills
  • Experience working independently with a high degree of initiative, discretion and tact
  • Experience working effectively with a wide variety of people at different levels including physicians, industry sponsors and hospital departments
  • Experience simplifying complex processes into step-by-step instructions an asset
  • Excellent time management, organizational skills and attentional to detail required
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated record of good performance and acceptable attendance will be considered as part of the selection criteria.
  • Professional behaviour and communication that meets the standards of the professional regulatory college or association, as applicable, and the standards of Women\'s College Hospital.
  • This position plays a critical role in acting as an advocate for safety and will demonstrate principles, practices and processes that will optimize a safe environment for all.
