Compensation Range $6,068.92 - $8,724.25 CAD Monthly

Job Summary
This is a full-time position for a Clinical Research Manager (CRM) to coordinate and manage a number of research projects within the Anesthesia Department at Royal Columbian Hospital (RCH). Research project design, modification and development are key elements to this role. The CRM will coordinate all aspects of the clinical research projects from protocol development, through data collection and analysis, to publication of study results. The CRM will also support multiple projects within the RCH department of anesthesia (composed of around 40-45 anesthesiologists, of whom roughly 1/3 are actively involved with research), as well as approximately 3-5 trainees per year of varying levels of training (medical students and residents). The CRM will train and supervise research staff, including research assistants and co-op students. The position requires respectful and sensitive approach for diverse collaborations with physicians, staff, patients and families. The CRM must maintain an open, balanced approach, while adhering to study protocol and ensuring project milestones are achieved. The CRM will also act as the liaison with stakeholders within RCH

Organizational Status
The CRM will report directly to report to the RCH Anesthesia Department Research Committee. The CRM will also report to Principal Investigators who hold University of British Columbia (UBC) faculty appointments with the Department of Anesthesiology, Pharmacology & Therapeutics and interact with other members of the Department, and collaborators from other departments within UBC. The CRC will regularly communicate with other research and clinical staff, patients and their families.

Work Performed

Manage and coordinate collaborative research project(s), setting project priorities and goals with Principal Investigators and Co-Investigators Determine and prioritize project work plans and monitor timelines to ensure project deadlines are met Developing grant proposals and letters of intent, liaises with faculty members on major grants, prepares budgets, obtains approvals according to UBC and Fraser Health policy, and manages the grant development process Manage and participate in recruitment, data collection, data extraction, data cleaning, data analysis Participate in composing, editing and production of research documents (protocols, conference abstracts and posters, and journal manuscripts) Manages projects to ensures data quality, Good Clinical Practices, and compliance with N2 Standard Operating Procedures and Health Canada regulations and standards are followed for all studies with Health Canada approval Provide leadership in all communication activities with study stakeholders (parents, children, investigators, sponsors, staff, national and international research partners) Manage and navigate research activities with anesthesia staff to ensure compliance with regular or emergency hospital procedures Report to the management committee of co-investigators, and ensure timely notification of issues or problems Plans, organizes, facilitates and leads team meetings, department research rounds, national and international meetings, communicates agenda and project updates Oversees preparation and submission of documentation to regulatory bodies, such as Health Canada, and ethics committees for approval, ensuring regulatory procedures are adhered to, and communicates with regulatory bodies to address inquires and provisos; registers clinical trials and resolves errors Responsible for hiring of research staff and provide supervision and training to research assistants, trainees, and contractors, ensuring consistency Supervises research personnel - best practices in participant recruitment and clinical data collection, as well as study specific procedures Advises research personnel on all regulatory requirements, institutional policies, administrative and financial matters including budgeting of finances for research projects with human participants, and ensures projects are in compliance Oversee and manage research budget and ensure appropriate expenditures, reconciling statements, resolving discrepancies, forecasting budgets, and arranging contracts and fund transfers as needed in coordination with the Department Financial Administrator Develop a communication plan for ongoing project communications systems and for the dissemination of study findings (knowledge translation) Participate in the writing, editing and production of abstracts, reports, articles, posters and manuscripts for local, national and international presentation/publication Identify funding sources and responsible for grant development and submissions, ensuring that funding agency requirements and deadlines are met Performing other related duties

Consequence of Error/Judgement

The CRM is required to conduct all research activities in an ethical manner following approved guidelines. Confidentiality must be respected when dealing with research data. Errors made could influence the ability of research staff to meet critical deadlines, as well as compromise the results of research projects, and therefore impact the credibility of the investigators and the department. As data and results may be disseminated to other research partners, their results and credibility can be negatively influenced by the researcher s error.

Supervision Received

The CRM will receive general direction by the Principal Investigators and the Research Committee. The CRM will be expected to exercise a considerable amount of initiative in fulfilling a work plan

Supervision Given

The CRM may supervise Research Assistant(s), volunteers and trainees. They will also assist in coaching and training of all trainees and volunteers. Provides direction and technical knowledge to a research team and provides functional direction to researchers. Provides training and coaching to trainees and manage staff.

Minimum Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of three years of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in a clinical research environment High degree of computer literacy, including familiarity with Microsoft Office Understanding of research methods and knowledge of clinical data, and their analysis, is an asset. The candidate will have excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with a variety of different audiences, including researchers, physicians, families, staff and administration. Self-motivated and the ability to work well with minimal supervision.
