. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 1 year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
This position reports to the Principal Investigator.
The Department of Critical Care Medicine operates a departmental clinical research program that operates clinical research studies in collaboration with department faculty principal investigators (observational and interventional clinical trials). This program operates multiple simultaneous studies within the department of critical care medicine, including investigator initiated studies, grant funded and industry sponsored studies. This program seeks a highly experienced and skilled clinical research program coordinator.
Summary of Key Responsibilities
(job functions include but are not limited to):
In collaboration with department members, provide support for operation of clinical research program studies in the Department of Critical Care Medicine
Perform study start-up tasks, including assisting PIs with the preparation and internal submissions of research ethics submissions, clinical trial agreements, financial agreements, and other study-start up tasks
Develop informed consent forms, source documents worksheets and case report forms
Effective communication with study sponsors for the duration of studies from start-up through close out
Perform investigator-delegated functions for study operations, including obtaining informed consent from research participants, interviewing and educating patients, completing questionnaires, completing case report forms, and adverse event screening and reporting
Collaborate with the study investigators to perform and complete relevant parts of the study (may include tasks such as obtaining signatures, discussing questions that come up, reviewing abnormal results of tests, etc.)
Ensure that services meet the continuously changing needs of the department and the University
Make recommendations to policy or procedural changes
Coordinate and schedule research visits according to study procedures
Extract data from clinical information systems and existing databases (data entry) as required
Maintain accurate logs of all study activities (screening logs, tracking logs, etc.)
Contribute to protocol development and research program standard operating procedures
Liaise with all research team members and sponsor/other collaborators
Maintain research study binders with regulatory documents and patient data
Qualifications / Requirements:
Bachelo's degree and masters degree in relevant field
At least 5 years of experience in clinical research
Extensive experience with clinical trial operations
Specific experience in critical care clinical trials
Experience with non-invasive ventilation (both helmet and standard)
Experience with ARDS
Experience working in the ICU setting is essential
Experience with UCalgary REB, legal and finance operations is essential
Clinical Trial Coordinator training such as Alberta SPOR SUPPORT Unit: Leadership in Patient Oriented Research: Pragmatic Clinical Trials Certificate Program; Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI Program); National Institutes of Health (NIH): Protecting Human Research Participants; Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans; Northern Alberta Clinical Trials + Research Centre (NACTRC) - Study Coordinator Training Program]
Knowledge of University policies including submission of projects to ethics boards
Ability to independently manage time and attend to multiple tasks is essential
Fluent in English; French is an preferred asset, excellent communication skills
Computer literacy MS Windows, Word, Excel, MS Outlook and MS Access
