Position Overview

Under the direction of the Clinical Manager, and in collaboration with the Clinical Educator, the Clinical Practice Facilitator (CPF) is responsible for providing clinical expertise, guidance, mentoring, and support to nurses and support staff who are new to the ward unit. The incumbent serves as a positive role model of excellence in professional practice, demonstrating a positive attitude and a commitment to the vision, values, and goals of the unit/facility/region, and promoting an interdisciplinary, patient-centered approach to care based on best available research evidence. The incumbent fosters growth of the new staff member within an effective mentoring relationship while supporting self learning objectives.

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years recent acute surgical experience required
  • Demonstrated clinical competence required
  • Recent experience as a preceptor or mentor preferred
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Graduate of an approved Registered Nursing education program required.
  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Successful completion of a recognized course in adult education principles and strategies is an asset.
  • Medical/Surgical CNA Certification is an asset.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing personal and professional growth required.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Responsible to maintain and provide proof of active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba.
Active participation in professional associations e.g. Association of Regulated Nurses of Manitoba (ARNM) preferred.

Qualifications and Skills
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication skills required.
  • Ability to demonstrate positive leadership behaviours.
  • Ability to support the learning and skill development of less experienced staff.
  • Ability to demonstrate collaboration within a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Ability to function calmly and with use of leadership skills during stressful situations within a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to act as a role model to both the nursing and nursing support staff.
  • Ability to serve as a resource on issues related to clinical practice for both new and experienced staff on the unit.
Scope of practice as documented in the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA).

Physical Requirements

  • The ability to function effectively within a stressful environment required
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality in all matters relating to the hospital, patients, and their families
  • The ability to work safely without injury to self or to patients
This term position may end earlier as outlined in your collective agreement.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
