Position Summary:

The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is an advanced practice nurse with graduate education in nursing, possessing advanced clinical and theoretical knowledge/skill within the clinical specialty. As a member of Seniors\xe2\x80\x99 Services, the CNS will have a combined clinical consultative and clinical capacity building role in the support of care for the older adult during hospitalization and transition into the community. As a nursing leader, the CNS role will advance excellence in care through involvement in education, research, program development and evaluation and research. This position will require travel across all three sites.

Principle Responsibilities:

  • As a clinical expert, mentor, and educator, the CNS, works closely with inter-professional teams, provides leadership in program planning, implementation and evaluation of gerontological nursing practice.
  • Actively participates in the teaching learning process with patients, families, students and team members regarding best practice in the care of older adults.
  • Contributes to the identification and investigation of patient and nursing issues and the utilization of research and evaluation findings into practice.
  • Contributes to the ongoing development and implementation of Seniors\xe2\x80\x99 Services and corporate quality initiatives that are relevant to the care of older adults.
  • Participates as a member on relevant internal and external committees and professional groups.
  • Contributes to the overall vision/mandate of Seniors\xe2\x80\x99 Services.
Key Qualifications:
  • Current certificate of competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Membership in the Registered Nurses\xe2\x80\x99 Association of Ontario
  • Canadian Nurses Association certification in gerontological nursing, preferred
  • Masters degree in nursing with clinical focus in gerontology is required
  • 5 years experience with demonstrated excellence in practice in gerontological nursing
  • Effective leadership skills
  • Strong communication skills and ability to establish positive relationships with all staff, clients, families and community agencies and professionals
  • Superior interpersonal and coaching skills to facilitate identification and development of staff learning needs
  • Demonstrated program planning, implementation and evaluation skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
