UHN is recruiting Occupational Therapy (OT) & Physiotherapy (PT) Clinical Externs to work under the direct and/or indirect supervision of Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists to provide support to patient care.

JOB SUMMARY:

The OT & PT clinical extern will be working in the capacity as an unregulated health care provider. Occupational Therapy / Physiotherapy clinical externs work in collaboration with the clinical team under direct and/or indirect supervision of an appointed UHN Occupational Therapist and/or Physiotherapist.

Externs will be hired on contract, working a minimum of 7.5 hours per week. The scheduling of these hours will be determined based on department needs, supervising therapist availability and may include weekday or weekend shifts.

This role:

• Supports provision of quality occupational therapy or physiotherapy services to patients at UHN within the framework of patient centred care
• Provides assistance during therapeutic sessions with lifting, turning, transferring, transporting and ambulating as per the hospital policy.
• Assists in completing therapeutic tasks including cognitive therapy as well as exercise and walking program
• Cleans, checks, sets up and organizes equipment
• Communicates effectively with members of the interprofessional team
• Perform all other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Occupational therapy students in any year of study in a training program accredited by the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists or Physiotherapy students in any year of study of a training program accredited by Physiotherapy Education Accreditation Canada
• Previous hospital experience as an employee, learner or volunteer an asset
• Previous experience in clinical placement an asset
• Good problem solving skills
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Able to work independently and in a team
• Must be able to perform the physical demands of the job

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• Available to work daytime shifts on week days or weekends until March 2022
• Vaccines (COVID-19 and others) are a requirement of the job unless you have an exemption on a medical ground pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code.
