Clinical Dietitian Nephrology, Nutrition

BC Children\xe2\x80\x99s & Women\xe2\x80\x99s Hospital + Health Centre

Reporting to the Professional Practice Leader, Nutrition, and in collaboration with the inter-professional team, the Clinical Dietitian, Nephrology provides and co-ordinates clinical nutrition services for all facets of the Renal Program at Children\'s & Women\'s (C&W) according to established guidelines, standards, policies, and procedures. Completes nutrition assessments and makes recommendations to improve the nutrition status of patients who experience multiple nutrition problems as a result of the chronic progression of renal diseases, treatment modality, concomitant pathologies and medications.

What you\xe2\x80\x99ll do

  • Provides nutritional assessment by evaluating biochemical, anthropometric and dietary parameters and subjective global assessment; develops and implements care plans, manages and monitors nutritional care of patients. Participates in patient care rounds and clinics by evaluating and reporting on aspects of the nutrition care plan. Maintains appropriate, related records including patient care data base, diet orders and menus.
  • Develops, co-ordinates, implements and evaluates patient education and nutritional care; participates in the ongoing continuous planning and assessment of treatment protocols by providing information to the treatment team regarding the clinical nutrition management of paediatric, adolescent and maternal renal disease.
  • Provides workshops and in-service instruction, and prepares written resources based on the latest research in nutrition and renal disease to other health care professionals including dietitians, physicians, nurses, social workers, medical students regarding the nutritional management of renal disease for paediatric and adolescent and maternal (prenatal) health.
  • Reviews diet writing guidelines and standards of patient care to provide the appropriate food and nourishment to patients.
  • Supports Dietetic Intern experience by providing suggested activities for students; provides input related to performance evaluation.
  • As part of a multi-disciplinary team participates in community based committees and community outreach activities which may include presentations at conferences, seminars and workshops related to nutritional care and Renal Disease for family and paediatrics.
  • Provides input to department meetings and other related activities and projects.
  • Provides input to the planning, development and evaluation of clinical research proposals, projects and surveys. Collaborates with research teams to collect data.
  • Assists the Professional Practice Leader, Program Manager and Medical Director in evaluating the program operation and in establishing goals and objectives by assisting in the review of caseload, treatment trends, statistics, etc.
What you bring

Qualifications
  • Graduation from an academic program in dietetics approved by the College of Dietitians of British Columbia.
  • Three (3) years recent, related clinical experience including one in pediatric nutrition and feeding practices/behaviours in an acute care setting or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Full registration in the College of Dietitians of British Columbia.
