The Clinical Counsellor works in a community outreach setting and is a valuable partner to all communities of the Indian Residential School Survivors Society. Will be an active team member of the Child Family Trauma Informed Health & Wellness Supports (CFTI).
The role provides advanced level expertise in clinical counselling services specific to Children, Youth & Families impacted by the current First Nations Child Family & Jordans Principle (FNCF & JP) Settlement Claims Processes. As a valued part of IRSSS and our program teams, this position provides mental wellness counselling services for crisis, trauma, and intergenerational trauma referrals from the Child Family Trauma Informed Program. The Clinical Counsellor practices from an Indigenous worldview that recognizes and respects the values, beliefs and customs of individuals, families and communities as well as adhering to best practices current to the field.
Responsibilities
Provides crisis support and intervention in the event of a community based critical incident in support of the CFTI Team.
Provides mental wellness counselling services including individual, group and family sessions healing/treatment planning, collaborative planning and after care partnered with local agencies/First Nations Communities for those impacted by the FNCF & JP
Collaborates with Program Managers and CFTI resources as needed
Provides assessments and screenings as needed upon discovery of the presence of suicide risk and mental health related issues
Provides referrals to external agencies, internal services, Traditional Healers and other culturally relevant resources
Provides consultation, education and information to individuals, families, community and caregivers about mental wellness
Evaluates treatment outcomes to ensure effectiveness of services through continuous follow-up plans and actions
Communicates regularly with the Director of Programs regarding any incidents
Qualifications
Master's degree in Psychology, Counselling Psychology, Social Work (with counselling experience).
Clear criminal record check.
Training in therapeutic modalities (SE, EMDR, IFS, Motivational Interviewing etc.)
Two years' experience with trauma, depression, and/or anxiety.
Registration with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC) and/or Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association.
Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous Peoples (First Nations, Metis, and Inuit), LGBTQ2S+, BIPOC, and Visible Minorities with one to three years of recent related experience working in counselling and community-based resources.
Passionate about working with individuals and helping them overcome challenges.
Ability to work independently and take initiative.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $90,000.00-$110,000.00 per year
