Position Summary:
The Clinical Counsellor/Psychotherapist, under the direction of the Clinical Practice Lead, is responsible for providing evidence-based psychotherapeutic assessment and treatment to individuals aged 16 and older experiencing cognitive, emotional, or behavioural challenges, with a strong focus on addiction and concurrent mental health concerns. Services are delivered through a therapeutic relationship using verbal and non-verbal communication in both individual and group formats. The role includes responsibilities related to the Rapid Access Addiction Medicine (RAAM) clinic, with clinical duties carried out under the oversight of the RAAM Program Manager. Additional responsibilities include participation in clinical case consultations, multidisciplinary treatment planning, facilitation of psychoeducational groups, supervision of student placements, community liaison, and delivery of presentations as needed. All clinical services are provided in alignment with the mission, values, and established protocols of CMHA HPE.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience:
Master's degree in Clinical or Counselling Psychology, Social Work, or equivalent, with psychotherapy training including supervised practicums
Registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW), the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), or another appropriate regulated health professional college in Ontario
Minimum two years of post-graduate experience working with individuals aged 16 and older with mild to severe mental health and/or substance use challenges (preferred)
Demonstrated interest and/or experience in addiction-focused counselling, including familiarity with harm reduction and recovery-oriented approaches
Clinical responsibilities related to addiction services, including RAAM (Rapid Access Addiction Medicine), fall under the oversight of the RAAM Program Manager
Demonstrated ability to build effective therapeutic relationships with individuals, families, colleagues, and community partners
Clinical expertise in individual and group counselling; experience in marital and family counselling considered an asset
Knowledge and application of trauma-informed care and client-centred practices
Experience utilizing at least one of the following therapeutic modalities: CBT, DBT, Narrative Therapy, EMDR, Brainspotting, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), or Brief/Solution-Focused Therapy
Certification in First Aid and CPR
Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends
Proven ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
Strong knowledge of addiction and mental health symptoms, evidence-based treatment approaches, psychotropic medications, and their side effects
Familiarity with best practices in community-based support for individuals living with mental health and/or substance use issues
Skilled in assessment, crisis intervention, and stabilization
Advanced clinical reasoning and decision-making abilities
Knowledge of and ability to apply relevant legislation, including the Health Care Consent Act, Mental Health Act, and Personal Health Information Protection Act
Excellent communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic computer applications
Satisfactory criminal record and vulnerable sector check required prior to hire
Valid Ontario driver's license, access to a reliable vehicle, and proof of adequate vehicle insurance required
