Overview



The Clinical Assistant and Medical Scribe (CAMS) plays a pivotal role in supporting physicians and the multidisciplinary team by providing clinical assistance and real-time, accurate documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR). As a critical link between clinical, administrative, and documentation teams at TWC, this role requires exceptional attention to detail, medical knowledge, empathy, and organizational skills.

Key Responsibilities



Patient Engagement

Welcome patients and escort them to examination rooms. For virtual appointments, greet patients via video or teleconferencing (OTN), introduce the physician, outline the visit, and answer basic questions. Communicate effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds, including those with language barriers or accessibility needs. Troubleshoot basic technical issues during virtual appointments to ensure a seamless experience.

Clinical Assistance

Measure and record vital signs (e.g., temperature, height, weight, blood pressure) and enter results into patient charts.
o Support physicians and clinical staff with in-room tasks, ensuring smooth patient flow.

o Assist with basic clinical procedures as directed (e.g., preparing equipment).

Clinical Documentation

Accurately document in real time: Patient histories, physical examinations, and test results. Diagnoses, prescriptions, and treatment plans using appropriate medical terminology and coding standards. Utilize company macros.
o Prepare case summaries, referral letters, and medical reports with high accuracy.

o Review documentation for clarity and completeness, correcting errors as needed.

Data and Record Management

Maintain and update patient records in the EMR system (Accuro experience preferred).
o Ensure compliance with PHIPA and clinic documentation standards.

o Contribute to process improvements to reduce documentation errors and enhance efficiency.

Administrative and Office Support

Assist with general office tasks, such as scheduling and inventory management, as needed.
o Support workflow logistics to ensure exceptional patient care delivery.

o Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and administrative staff to maintain operational efficiency.

o Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance clinic operations and patient outcomes.

Qualifications & Skills



Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Strong verbal communication and professional presence. Ability to maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment with multiple patient encounters per hour. Strong time management and prioritization skills to balance clinical, documentation, and administrative tasks efficiently. Capacity to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining composure, accuracy, and confidentiality. Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office Suite; EMR/EHR experience required (Accuro is an asset). Typing speed of at least 60 WPM preferred. Familiarity with medical terminology, documentation standards, and billing/coding. Ability to maintain PHIPA-compliant workspace when working virtually (a private, enclosed space, no shared or common areas, no interruptions from family members or pets). Commitment to ethical standards, professionalism, and maintaining patient trust in all interactions.

Education & Experience



High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required. Currently enrolled in or completion of a post-secondary program in a pre-health career track preferred. Completion of coursework in

Medical Terminology

and

Human Anatomy

strongly preferred. Minimum of 1-2 years of in-clinic work experience preferred. Previous customer service experience in a healthcare setting is an asset. Prior experience in transcription or medical documentation is an asset. Phlebotomy experience is an asset.
