Your Opportunity:

This is an alternate physician provider role in which the successful candidate will work with a limited medical license issued from the College of Physician and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA). The incumbent will work within the Department of Anesthesia at Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre under the direction of an attending and within a multidisciplinary team setting to deliver acute patient care. An Anesthesia Clinical Assistant assists a hospital or outpatient care center\'s anesthesia team during surgical procedures and in nonsurgical settings such as Outpatient clinics and hospital care wards. Their primary duties include monitoring the status of patients, administering anesthesia, and providing emergency medical assistance as required. This posting is open only to those who have submitted a completed application package to the Alberta Clinical and Surgical Assistant Program (ACSAP) and have received confirmation that they are registered with ACSAP.

Description:

We are currently hiring 2 Clinical Assistant (CA) positions to support the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre Anesthesia Department. These positions represent an opportunity created for International Medical Graduates (IMGs) to be selected and prepared for work as Clinical Assistants in clinical departments. IMGs are landed immigrants, Canadian citizens and/or have employment authorization from the Canadian government and fulfill the program requirements. The main responsibility for an Anesthesia Clinical Assistant (CA) is to assist the anesthesiologist and care for patients before, during and after procedures. Prior to a procedure, the CA gathers all the information the anesthesiologist will need to prescribe the right type and dose of anesthesia. If the patient needs medications or interventions prior to the procedure, the CA orders or performs them. During the procedure, the CA administers the prescribed anesthesia under direct supervision and closely monitors patient vital signs. Following the procedure, the CA manages the care the patient receives until they\'re out of recovery.

Required Qualifications:

Applicant must be either a landed immigrant (Permanent Resident) or a Canadian Citizen at the time of application. Applicants must be a graduate of a medical school located outside of Canada and the United States, listed in the Foundation of Advancement of International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER) International Medical Directory (IMED). Experience in an acute hospital-based care facility within the last 3 years. Preference will be given to applicants who have had active acute care surgical experience within the last 3 years. Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME): Must have completed a recognized orthopedic or general surgery residency program with a successful completion of an existing board exam. Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examination Part I (MCCQE1): Applicants must have passed the MCC Qualifying Examination Part 1 prior to application. English Language Proficiency: As a requirement for licensure by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA), applicants must have taken the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) in Canada with minimum required scores of 7.0 in each of the components within 24 months prior to registration.
Additional Required Qualifications:

A successful candidate will possess certain skills that will allow them to work well with the rest of the anesthesiology team and effectively care for our patients, including: Scientific and medical knowledge to direct their activities when delivering patient care. Strong oral and written communication skills to collaborate with the care team and record patient data. Problem-solving skills to respond to emergency situations quickly. Critical thinking skills to diagnose symptoms patients are exhibiting and modify care to address them. Expertise in using key equipment including endotracheal tubes, anesthesia ventilators, U/S machines for regional anesthesia, IV-line insertions, video laryngoscopies. Onsite training will be provided to ensure familiarity with the equipment currently in use. Time management skills that will allow them to monitor multiple patients without sacrificing the quality of care.
