Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia is currently searching for a Climate Strategist to join our team in Burnaby!

The Climate Strategist (P.Eng. or P.Geo. designation preferred) is a big-picture thinker who is responsible for providing leadership, interpretation, subject matter expertise, and guidance to Engineers and Geoscientists BC, registrants, government, members of the public, and a wide range of partners on matters related to climate change adaptation and mitigation and sustainability as it relates to our regulatory role.

The Climate Strategist is an effective communicator who can represent Engineers and Geoscientists BC to its registrants, government, and the public. The successful candidate should have experience in developing strategic plans related to climate change at an organizational level. They should also have experience working in the field of climate change: climate policy development, adaptation and decarbonization planning, implementation, and sustainability reporting.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  • Works strategically and collaboratively both internally within Engineers and Geoscientists BC and with external stakeholders and groups to support the development, implementation, and evaluation of climate change and sustainability strategies.
  • Is relied upon to provide coordination and recommendation on strategic direction for Engineers and Geoscientists BC for the development of an organizational strategy for climate action.
  • Reviews Engineers and Geoscientists BC operations, policies, and practices and identifies areas of action for including a climate and equity lens. Monitors the evolution of climate change-related science, policy, and technology landscape to support the development and rollout of new regulatory programs/initiatives related to climate action and sustainability.
  • Builds and maintains relationships within the different sectors and industries of practice, to support the evolution of industries and areas of practice contributing to climate action and sustainability.
  • Makes decisions/recommendations in liaising with other regulators, as required, and providing staff support on matters of practice overlap in relation to sustainability, climate change adaptation and mitigation.
  • Provides support for the consultation process on climate change-related intentions papers, codes, standards, guidelines, and other public policy documents initiated by the public and private sectors that have implications for the practice of registrants.
  • Provides input into developing professional practice resources and continuing education on the topic of climate change and sustainability.
  • Manages advisory groups, task forces, and engagement work led by Engineers and Geoscientists BC.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE

The successful applicant will possess the following:
  • Bachelor\'s degree in Engineering, Geoscience, or similar.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer or Professional Geoscientist is preferred. Candidates without a P.Eng. or P.Geo. designation should possess a project management and/or climate/sustainability certification (i.e. PMP, GHG-IQ, SCR, etc.).
  • 6+ years relevant experience related to climate change strategy development.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in the areas of GHG emissions reductions, climate change adaptation and sustainability are required.
  • Detailed involvement in technical or scientific writing and/or editing.
  • Detailed involvement managing engineering or geoscience projects.
  • Strong communication skills; must be comfortable speaking in public and to a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Experience working in the natural resources sector, though not required, is an asset to this position.
  • Experience working in or with the provincial government, municipal government, or within another approving authority is considered an asset.
