About Us

Nova Scotia Environment and Climate Change\'s role is to protect the environment, human health and through regulatory excellence, conservation, partnership, and promotion. To achieve this, we strive to develop legislation, regulations and policies, process notifications, applications, and approvals for regulated activities based on sound scientific knowledge and expertise. Our goal is to educate, inspect and enforce to ensure compliance with legislation and regulations. We also proactively respond to environmental, conservation, and human health risks and work to develop programs and deliver services to enhance protection in these areas.

This position is based in the Climate Change Division\'s (CCD) Adaptation Team. We support provincial departments, industry stakeholders and communities to prepare for the impacts of climate change. We offer climate change adaptation strategy planning and implementation support and coordination, as well as training and reporting. While the adaptation strategies of our partners vary widely, we strive to ensure our work reflects current best thinking and approaches for climate adaptation research and practice and advances larger public policy goals.

About Our Opportunity

As a Climate Adaptation Coordinator, you will be responsible for implementing aspects of our Adaptation Program designed to support Nova Scotia government departments, industry sectors, and communities become more adaptive to climate change by developing and implementing adaptation strategies. Our capacity and skills building program supports the achievement of Nova Scotia\'s Climate Change Plan for Clean Growth.

Primary Accountabilities

You will be responsible for, but work collaboratively in achieving the following:

  • Supporting government departments and sector partners in developing and implementing adaptation strategies to help minimize sector-specific risks
  • Designing and supporting capacity building and skills development programs and activities with partners from a wide range of backgrounds
  • Supporting program modifications, redesign, and implementation
  • Developing guidance and learning materials, including workshop plans, presentations, guidance material, and learning curriculum
  • Leading multidisciplinary teams through a participatory process of strategy development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation
  • Designing and facilitating workshops, conducting research, authoring reports, and delivering presentations
  • Project Management
Specific Tasks and Accountabilities
  • Developing materials and correspondence to recruit team members for strategy development and implementation teams.
  • Designing and facilitating interactive and engaging meetings and workshops
  • Engaging with all partners to build and maintain strong sustainable multi-stakeholder teams
  • Identifying opportunities for funding, projects, and policy as well and funding needs and options
  • Participating in regularly scheduled peer learning and reflection meetings and events
  • Researching sector-specific adaptation best practices and processes
  • Connecting stakeholders to climate information and resources and to available training and learning opportunities
  • Developing team workplans and workplan performance targets
  • Tracking data to support monitoring and issuing quarterly evaluation reports
  • Researching and presenting policy options and preparing information materials
Qualifications and Experience

As the successful candidate, you will have a bachelor\'s degree in an environment, climate change or other relevant field, and at least 5 years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Your experience must clearly demonstrate your skills in capacity building, critical thinking, project management, stakeholder management in complex environments, expert group facilitation, and excellent written and verbal communication. Demonstrated knowledge of and interest in climate change adaptation is required (and experience preferred).

To excel within this role, you must be imaginative, dedicated, self-directed and organized with a proven track record of working both independently and collaboratively. You must show experience building, empowering and leading diverse multi-disciplinary groups. You are technologically adept and have experience using data, theory, and best practice to identify creative, practical, and defensible approaches to overcoming challenges and are able to recognize and articulate appropriate approaches to policy issues. You must show that you can consider different viewpoints and can manage competing perspectives diplomatically, as you will be expected to forge strong relationships of trust and collaboration between partners and meaningfully bring them together in shared activities.

Though it is not a requirement, you are encouraged to identify any experience you have had in grant writing, survey design and analysis, monitoring and evaluation, curriculum design, and online learning platforms (e.g., Moodle), experiential learning and more immersive, arts-based forms of engagement. We also encourage you to identify additional skills not listed which would be assets in this role.

Pay Grade: PR 13

Salary Range: $2,543.38 - $3,091.70 Bi-Weekly
