JOB SUMMARY




As a Client Wellness Counsellor, you will provide prompt non?medical assessment, intervention, short?term counselling, and referrals to connect MAGMA clients with internal and external community resources, particularly during challenging times. This role requires strong knowledge of the newcomer settlement process, community services, and language?learning challenges, along with empathy, multicultural awareness, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to supporting and empowering individuals from diverse backgrounds.

CORE POSITION RESPONSIBILTIES



Client Support:



Provide non?clinical support by informing clients how to access emergency or specialized services, without delivering medical or crisis intervention. Provide guidance on how to access additional support and services within confidentiality limits, including community referrals as needed. Provide individual short-term supportive counselling for newcomers. Record information, incident reports, and case notes for client files and reporting purposes. Assist clients in developing effective strategies to address settlement and integration challenges. Collaborate closely with Settlement Counsellor and other MAGMA frontline staff on initial needs assessments. Liaise with internal departments and external community partners to ensure coordinated support and communication. Facilitate referrals to longer-term community support services and/or mental health services as required. Provide non?clinical conflict mediation support for conflicts involving clients in on?site programs.

Documentation and Reporting:



Maintain accurate and confidential client records and documentation Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and confidentiality agreements Prepare reports and summaries as required by organizational policies and funders; including weekly reporting on number of clients served, sessions, and follow-ups.

Collaboration and Teamwork:



Work closely with other MAGMA team members to ensure coordinated and holistic support for clients Deliver training to frontline staff as needed to improve client support and overall service experience Participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development opportunities Collaborate with community organizations, service providers, and stakeholders to enhance client support

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS



Post-secondary degree in Social Work, Social Sciences, or a related health discipline (e.g., Counselling), or equivalent training Background in trauma-informed care or training an asset Certification in Mental Health First Aid and/or willingness to get certified Current CPR/First Aid certification Must possess a valid class 5 driver's license

ADDITIONAL SKILLS



Demonstrated initiative, sound judgment, and strong problem-solving skills Proven ability to exercise discretion when handling sensitive and confidential matters Knowledge of community resources and mental health services in the Greater Moncton area, including trauma care providers specializing in family and partner violence Proficient in basic office and administrative tasks, including Microsoft Office and related software Skilled in planning, implementing, and evaluating group activities Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively Clear Vulnerable Sector Police Reference Check is required Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders Awareness, understanding, and sensitivity to issues affecting immigrant and refugee communities Commitment to culturally responsive service delivery within an anti-racism framework
