Job Purpose

The Client Standards Technician is responsible for ensuring a consistent and reliable hardware/software configuration on desktops and peripherals. The incumbent is also responsible for implementing and maintaining hardware/software standards (including version and patch control) on an enterprise basis. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring consistency of desktop applications within Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries, with the objective of reducing the total number of incident support calls to the Service Desk.


Job Responsibilities

Evaluate, review and set software standards across the enterprise. Maintain version control for all software products within the organization. Create, implement and revise group policies based on standards or best practices. Create, implement and revise procedures for software installation/configuration to meet business, IT support and the organization's security needs. Control and test download of utilities that are available as freeware or shareware from the internet. Test the compatibility of new proposed software. Test software upgrades. Complete user profiling to match software with business and IT requirements. Evaluate, review and implement new and/or standard software/hardware tools to support ITS support/ delivery services, as well as the user community. Ensure desktop applications licensing agreements are in compliance. Create test environments for new software evaluations. Create, maintain and distribute virtual applications for virtual and physical desktops. Create, maintain and distribute VMWare thin/Zero client images. Schedule and execute Request for Change. Investigate and provide solutions on escalated calls for desktop support to all ITS groups. Research technical and non-technical problems. Liaison with vendors for resolution and corrective action (e.g., Adobe products, Windows, office and mobile devices.). Anticipate, identify and provide solutions to potential problems. Other related duties as assigned.

Primary Qualifications


--------------------------


Completion of a recognized degree or diploma program in an IT related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience. Industry certifications such as A+, Network+, Linux+, RHCE, MCTS, MCITP, and CCNA would be assets. A minimum of four years' experience in an IT support and service delivery role supporting enterprise class systems and applications. Proven experience in superior customer service delivery and support. Proven project coordination experience. Have and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 5 Drivers license. Continuous upgrading and learning is required to remain current in information technology. Specialized knowledge required using MS Exchange, Group Policies, VMWare, Thin/Zero Clients, iOS, Android, Blackberry and Windows OS. The core competencies for this position include achieving quality results, adaptability/managing change, communication, customer service, decision making and problem solving, integrity and building trust, teamwork and cooperation and valuing diversity. These competencies are deemed important for the success of the position and organization. Satisfactory work performance in the preceding twelve (12) months is a requirement. Attendance rate will be a factor in the pre-screening process.

Bilingual French/English language skills are an asset.

Vacation



Accrue up to 10 paid vacation days per year during the first 2 years of employment. Accrue 15 paid vacation days per year after 3 years of employment.
