The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.Position OverviewWorking as a member of the Health Information Correspondence team and with leadership from the Director, Health Information Services and Privacy Officer, the incumbent is responsible for data entry of all requests for information into the Release of Information (ROI) system and release of information. As time permits provide clerical support to the Health Information Correspondents by copying or printing documents from patient health records, microfilm, Electronic Patient Record (EPR) Electronic Medical Record (EMR), and other automated systems, taking telephone messages, and processing patient records.Experience

  • Two years of experience handling and releasing confidential patient information from hospital health records required.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Complete high school education, Manitoba standards, required.
  • Successful completion of a recognized Medical Office Assistant required.
  • Successful completion of a CHIMA-recognized Health Information Management program preferred.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Successful challenge of the CHIMA National Certification examination, with a valid CHIMA certificate, current active CHIMA membership preferred.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Preference will be given to those applicants competent in an Indigenous language and/or knowledge in Indigenous customs, traditions and values.
  • Typing/keyboarding skills (minimum 50 wpm) and medical terminology required (HSC test pass mark 75%).
  • Understands the Personal Health Information Act and is able to apply knowledge when releasing information.
  • Operational knowledge of office equipment including computers, photocopiers, facsimile machines, and microfilm reader-printers required.
  • Terminal Digital Filing aptitude required.
  • Must possess a sound understanding of the principles of confidentiality and release of health information with the ability to interpret same to Administration, medical staff, other hospital disciplines, patients, lawyers, police, social agencies, insurance agencies and the public in accordance with current hospital policy and legislation.
  • Meets deadlines, problem solves and exercises judgement for decision making within the scope of the job description and within the team mandate.
  • Good command of English (oral and written) and good interpersonal communication skills required.
Physical Requirements
  • Use of computer, photocopier, microfilm reader/printer, and facsimile machine.
  • Prolonged physical activities include sitting, standing, stair climbing, lifting and loading/unloading chart bins weighing approximately 25 lbs.
  • Work environment consists of frequent interruptions.
  • No natural light.
