Job Description

We are in need of a permanent, full-time truck driver to operate tractor-trailer combinations or tandem axle trucks within the city. Combos include flat deck, dry van, end dump, roll-offs, and B-Trains. Tandems include load-lugger and roll-off work.



Drivers will be required to strap or chain down loads and may be required to use automated routing equipment. A valid Class 1 driver's license and clean driver's abstract are required.



Our truck drivers work in the (non-smoking) cab of the truck while driving and outside when needed to load or unload. They can encounter all kinds of road, weather and traffic conditions. Truck drivers report to and are dispatched by the Logistics Manager and generally work independently while away from the office/yard.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:




Cargo handling and securing loads, including equipment preparation, application of safe practices and compliance with applicable Acts and Regulations

Perform pre-trip inspections on equipment

Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles

Perform periodic inspections and clean-up before, during and after delivery to ensure that load is properly secured

Comply with applicable legislation including safe operation, carriage of goods, driver's hours of service, occupational health and safety, transportation of dangerous goods and weights and dimensions

Communicate effectively with the public, customers, and co-workers both verbally and in written form

Deliver loads and proper paperwork to our customers in a courteous and timely manner

Maintain trucks (i.e. greasing, washing, interior cleanliness) overall service and perform required inspections

Other duties as assigned by the Logistics Manager

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS REQUIRED:




Valid Class 1 driver's license and a good driving record; a current clean driver's abstract will be required

Minimum 3 years' relevant experience

Strong technology skills are required for logs and apps

Strong mechanical aptitude with ability to perform routine vehicle maintenance

Demonstrate good oral and written English communication skills IS A MUST

Exceptional organizational abilities with strong time management skills

Must be able to lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds

A positive attitude and ability to provide excellent customer service

High level of personal integrity

Strong work ethic and ability to follow directions

Professional/mature demeanor under stressful situations in a fast-paced environment

Must be able to work with little supervision; must be self-directed

Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Certificate/training on transportation of dangerous goods is required

Certification from recognized Truck Driving School would be an asset

Work Conditions & Additional Information:




Working hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm, some overtime & weekends as required

Home at night, with exception of the occasional trip outside city limits

Permanent full-time position with competitive wages and benefits

Will be required to work outdoors in all weather conditions

Lifting, tarping, and climbing may be required

Own tools/equipment required: Steel-toed safety boots
