Summary

The individual in this position reports to the Agri Crew Supervisor and is responsible to move equipment around API farm sites, operate farm equipment and pick up and deliver hatching eggs from farms to the hatchery. The truck driver's position is physically demanding, requiring the ability to lift weights of up to 50lbs for extended periods during the loading and unloading of the truck. The position requires individuals with a valid Class 1 driver's license. Previous experience and a proven record driving a tractor trailer, straight truck, hauling live product as well as experience in keeping drivers' logs is preferred.


The Class 1 Driver and Equipment Operator will operate and maintain poultry farm equipment including tractors, manure handling equipment, and other necessary equipment.

Level of License Required




The successful candidate will have a Class 1 license or equivalent with Manual Transmission.

Schedule




The schedule for this role averages 40 hours per week. The schedule includes weekdays, weekends, holidays, and evenings as operationally required.

Position Accountabilities




Operate Class 1 vehicles to transport agricultural products, equipment, and materials between farm sites or to suppliers.

Ensure accurate and timely deliveries with proper documentation. Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections. Keep vehicles clean, fueled, and in good working condition. Loading and unloading of truck. Complete necessary paperwork at the barn and the egg delivery slip for the hatchery. Ensure carts of eggs and loads are safely secured prior to moving vehicle. Monitor truck heat and ventilation. After deliveries clean and disinfect truck body and cab, interior and exterior. Comply with applicable legislation including safe operation, carriage of goods, driver's hours of service, occupational health and safety, transportation of dangerous goods, road safety and weights and dimensions. Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions; check that vehicle position is correct and any special loading equipment is properly positioned. Report vehicle defects, mechanical problems, delivery issues, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles to your supervisor. Maintain logs of working hours and of vehicle service and repair status, following applicable provincial and federal regulations. Perform periodic inspections before, during, and after delivery to ensure that the load is properly fastened down and is secure. Deliver product and proper paperwork in a timely manner. Follow route schedules, and return trucks to API property at the end of each shift as required. Operate and maintain poultry farm equipment, manure handling equipment, loaders, and tractors. Assist in the daily operations as required of the farm, barn clean outs, and general upkeep. Monitor and perform routine maintenance on machinery to ensure it operates safely and efficiently Provide an environment free of animal cruelty, abuse and/or neglect for our poultry Protect the organization's value by keeping all protected and proprietary information confidential. Practice biosecurity protocol. Follow all safety processes and procedures. All other assigned duties including various hatchery work.

Position Requirements



High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred. Certification from recognized truck driving school or equivalent 3 years experience is preferred. Valid Class 1 Driver's License and current clear Driver's Abstract. Defensive Driving course is an asset. Pleasant and outgoing personality with exceptional customer service skills is a must. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Strong work ethic. Ability to work in fast paced environment. Ability to lift 50lbs. Ability to work a flexible schedule. Experience in the agricultural industry and/or food processing preferable. Able to work with live poultry. Able to work independently with minimal supervision.

The working conditions will be dusty at times with strong odours. Exposure to cold/heat with work conditions changing during seasons. Repetitive work/heavy lifting. Sitting for prolonged periods. Maneuvering on/off farm equipment while in use.
