At Atlantic Poultry Incorporated (API) we are committed to feeding our communities through stewardship of the land and animals in our care to inspire the next generation of Atlantic Canadian Farmers. API is a proud supporter of the poultry industry, providing feed, chicks, and fresh eggs year around to our customers throughout Atlantic Canada. The Truck Driver is required to pick up and deliver hatching eggs and chicks, move farm equipment and products.
This position requires someone that can work a flexible rotating schedule including every other weekend. This position is physically demanding; requiring the physical ability to lift weights of up to 45lbs for extended periods, during the loading and unloading of truck.
The position requires an individual with a valid Class 1 licence with the ability to drive manual. Previous experience and a proven commendable record driving a straight truck. The person in this position will work with minimal supervision.
Schedule
This is a full-time position working on average 40 hours a week. This position requires someone that can work a flexible rotating schedule including scheduled weekends/holidays.
Position Accountabilities
Pick up hatching eggs at breeder barns in production, eggs must be handled with extreme care both on and off the truck to avoid excessive bumping and jarring which will reduce hatchability
Moving equipment from one farm location to another
Loading and unloading of truck
Proper handling of chicks
Support hatchery operations when needed
Read and monitor cold room and vaccine fridge properly
Complete necessary paperwork at the barn and the egg delivery slip for the hatchery
Ensure full carts of eggs are secured in truck prior to moving vehicle
Monitor truck heat and ventilation
After deliveries clean and disinfect truck body and cab, interior and exterior
Comply with applicable legislation including safe operation, carriage of goods, driver's hours of service, occupational health and safety, transportation of dangerous goods, and weights and dimensions
Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions; check that vehicle position is correct and any special loading equipment is properly positioned
Check vehicles before driving them to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order
Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles
Maintain logs of working hours and of vehicle service and repair status, following applicable provincial and federal regulations
Perform periodic inspections before, during, and after delivery to ensure that load is properly fastened down and is secure
Deliver product and proper paperwork in a timely manner
Provide feedback to supervisor regarding delivery problems or vehicle mechanical problems
Protect the organization's value by keeping all protected and proprietary information confidential
Practice bio security protocol
Follow all safety processes and procedures
All other duties as assigned
Position Requirements
High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
Certification from recognized truck driving school or equivalent experience
Valid Class 1 driver's license
Defensive Driving Course is an asset
