About the role

We\xe2\x80\x99re looking for Claim Specialists, Accident Benefits to join our growing team!

As a Claims Specialist adjuster working within the Complex Injury Team, you will be responsible for overseeing a pending of Accident Benefit files that are of a complex nature. In addition to experience in handling complex claims and strong understanding of current and past legislations and regulations, the members of the CIU must be detail oriented, have exhibited strong communication, written and presentation skills, analytical, problem solving and negotiation skills. You will also be responsible for mentoring and coaching throughout the COE in support of staff development.

We offer a hybrid working environment with support and training. Permanent positions available across multiple locations in Ontario: Ottawa, Ajax, Mississauga, Toronto, Richmond Hill and London (Ontario) offices.

What you\xe2\x80\x99ll do here:

  • Handle a pending of Accident Benefit files while receiving regular intake of Complex and Catastrophic claims
  • Analyze and interpret insurance policy wording to determine coverage and assess entitlements which are fair and equitable
  • Communicate in a timely and respectful manner with the customer claimants, lawyers and rehabilitation experts and report findings
  • Represent the company in the negotiation and settlement process at the License Appeal Tribunal
  • Attend License Appeal Tribunal case conferences and hearings
  • Instruct Counsel on files in dispute
  • Conduct investigations and identify additional information such as an independent medical examinations, customer medical or employment history required to clarify and/or justify a claim
  • Participate in the dispute process on your own files that are of a complex nature. Attend Dispute hearings, discoveries on existing cases and case conferences
  • Complete regular reporting as required and liaising with Technical Services to ensure appropriate action and reserving is in place
  • Participate in Large Loss Meetings on own files where appropriate.
  • Complete coaching initiatives
  • Complete other duties as assigned as deemed reasonable to assist the Business
What you bring to the table:
  • At least 5-7 years of Accident Benefit claims handling experience including experience handling complex and catastrophic files.
  • Knowledge of provincial legislation governing auto insurance, with ancillary legislation and knowledge of the Dispute Resolution Practice Code.
  • Experienced in negotiations and demonstrated experience with independently settling Complex Accident Benefit files;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with all levels of staff.
  • Excellent customer service skill.
  • College Diploma or University Degree is preferred
