The Opportunity

Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC), Canada\xe2\x80\x99s leader in wetland conservation, is looking for a confident, energetic and dedicated junior to intermediate level Engineering Technologist to join our team in British Columbia, with a focus on construction of wetland rehabilitation projects.

As a member of the DUC BC Engineering Team, you will be responsible for primarily supervising and managing construction of water control structures, but also supporting the engineering team with planning, construction procurement, cost estimation, and design \xe2\x80\x93 activities that appeal to you because you love a balance of office work and field work. You will regularly travel to remote field sites for construction or to assist with inspections and operation and maintenance of small dams and water control structures. Your level of experience will allow you to work and supervise construction with a degree of independence.

You are an enthusiastic team player but also enjoy independently problem solving and thinking out of the box. You are self-motivated, enjoy a complex, changing environment and can manage numerous projects on tight deadlines.

Your minimum three years of experience, and strong technical capabilities make you the ideal candidate for this position. Practical experience with water control structures, conservation projects, ATV operation, using small tools, agriculture and/or biology, experience towing trailers, would all be considered assets to this very diverse and challenging opportunity.

Requirements

  • A Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology,
  • Awareness of WorkSafe BC and BC OHS Regulation, BC Dam Safety Regulation, Water Sustainability Act is an asset.
  • Proficiency with Civil 3D and AutoCAD is an asset.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering plans and specifications. Construction supervision, construction inspection, or construction management experience.
  • Practical knowledge of construction involving heavy equipment, construction of drainage infrastructure and/or earthworks (dams, embankments), and strong appreciation for construction site safety.
  • Pre-construction planning, tendering, contract management, cost estimation experience
  • Ability to work non-standard flexible hours to suit fieldwork/construction, comfort with long-distance travel on highway and logging roads. Enjoy being out in the field and away from home during construction for up to two weeks at a time.
  • Experience with topographic survey is an asset.
  • Excellent organization, interpersonal communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Experience with MS Word and Excel.
  • Valid class 5 driver\xe2\x80\x99s license (BC)
  • Our COVID-19 Vaccination Passport policy will be suspended effective March 1, 2023. However, should the policy be reinstated, all successful candidates will be required to submit proof of vaccination

Salary Range: $65,000 - $80,000, dependent on experience
