We are currently seeking a Civil Engineering Technologist to join our Engineering & Architectural Services Department.
Job Overview
The Civil Engineering Technologist supports the development, design, drafting, and coordination of engineered precast concrete products. This role works closely with engineers, drafters, production teams, and clients to ensure drawings, specifications, and technical requirements are accurate, feasible, and aligned with manufacturing capabilities.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, technically strong, comfortable interpreting structural and architectural drawings, and able to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple ongoing projects.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering & Drafting
Prepare detailed shop drawings, layouts, and technical documentation for precast components
Interpret structural, civil, and architectural drawings to ensure dimensional and technical accuracy
Support engineers with calculations, design reviews, and specification adherence
Assist with drawing revisions, change management, and document control
Technical Coordination
Communicate with engineers, contractors, and internal departments to resolve design or drawing issues
Attend production meetings to align design requirements with manufacturing needs
Perform site visits and field measurements as required
Ensure all drawings comply with relevant codes, standards, and project specifications
Quality & Documentation
Verify accuracy of drawings before release to production
Support quality assurance by reviewing reinforcement details, embeds, and product dimensions
Maintain organized electronic filing for drawings, RFIs, and engineering documents
Cross-Department Collaboration
Provide technical support to the Sales, Production, and Project Management teams
Assist with tender document reviews and preliminary design considerations
Participate in process improvement initiatives related to workflow, drafting standards, and data accuracy
Skills & Competencies
Strong understanding of civil/structural engineering principles
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
Proficient in AutoCAD; experience with Revit or other 3D platforms is an asset
Strong mathematical, analytical, and technical problem-solving skills
High attention to detail with excellent accuracy in drafting and documentation
Effective communicator comfortable interacting with engineers, clients, and production staff
Highly organized with strong time-management skills and ability to meet deadlines
Solutions-focused, proactive, and adaptable to shifting priorities
Qualifications & Experience
Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or related field
OACETT certification (C.Tech./A.Tech.) or working toward certification is an asset
1-3 years of experience in a civil engineering, construction, drafting, or precast environment
Experience working with structural drawings, engineering notes, or precast concrete is an asset
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
Valid Ontario driver's license for occasional site visits
